It's the dog gear on the gear itself that's come adrift mate. Very easy repair to do but it does mean the box needs to come apart. Your looking at about £160-£170 in parts though just to do that particular job. I know these gearboxes intimately! Lol!
It's demise has definitely been caused by...
Gearbox nearly finished now. :nomouth:
Ok, so maybe that's not a jc5, but it's as equally unreliable. Lol! Got a full strip and refresh to do on this, then refit it. 9hrs of fun. I thank you.
In jc5 129 news I'm waiting on back order parts to arrive overnight from Tokyo. Allegedly. So nothing...
What's up with your box currently? I may be able to help as I have stripped and rebuilt a fair few of these now.
I'd stick my neck out and say that all the ones available on the market need a few new gears in them as well tbh. They might last you a year or so before anything became noticeable.
Lol - quality picture!
For anyone who's not had the joy of going for a drive in this car, I can confirm its a real weapon! It's deceptively quick too. We were into 3 figure in no time at all (30.3mph ) and it just keeps pulling. Great car and a great conversion. Shame the owners a bell...
That's one of the reasons I've never bothered doing a trackday there tbh. Just doesn't have enough appeal. I even managed to get bored with oulton! And I've only been once! Lol
That's not a bad plan right up to the point that you encounter the splined 5th gear not playing ball and not coming off the shaft. Every single box I've stripped, the 5th gear has been a pita to remove. f**king things! Lol!
I did consider doing it the very same way though, so original 5th for...
Made a start on the gearbox today. Waiting on 4th gear arriving ( on back order) so there's not really much else I can do other than knock a bearing race on to the pinion end of the mainshaft. The bearing collar for 4th gear on the top of the shaft has now been fitted properly too. Gave myself a...
That is the smallest laminova mocal do mate. It was originally used on my Astra Quaife straight cut gearbox. It used to have overheating issues from anything over 150-160mph and this cooler was boss of the job!!
Box in bits is no drama tbh mate. It's been stripped down like that for well over 12...
Thanks. It's all just a bit of fun tbh. I like to do things differently too. If it was all out N/A performance I was after I'd have to choose itb's, but that's not the aim with this for me.
Thanks! I try my best!
