i5's the best compromise, IMO.
That said, an i3 would still be fine.
I used an i3 the other week and it was much quieter than my i7. Not sure about the i5.
Yeah, the Soundsticks still work.
The i5's a great processor, I've just picked up my new MacBook Pro running an i5 today, so I'll let you know how it handles stuff.
i7 or you're a peasant. ;)
TBH, the only reason I got the i7 is because it's much better at multitasking high-load applications. For what you'll use it for, an i3 would be fine!

Here you go. It's worth downloading the whole film from iTunes, though. The fella talking before Jony is Dieter Rams. Braun's head of design for twenty years.
If you like that, get his previous film 'Helvetica'
New one is out next year.
Anyone seen his feature in Objectified?
He shows how the Airs are made, and how the screen sections of iMac bodies are cut out to make two keyboard frames. Pretty cool.
Plus, he's my hero.
Optical drives are dying, so that's fair enough. I think I've used the drive on my MBP and iMac about twice.
The omission of the backlit keyboard is a shame though.
