    Oil Sandwich plate order

    On what grounds?

    Oil Sandwich plate order

You guys are an exercise in patience! 😂 Would use a double length fastener so shouldn't be more to loosen, you could argue there is more seal area to fail but still, not a question of the merits of a single plate over a double stack, just in the logic of sensor/cooler order!

    Oil Sandwich plate order

I was going to add a caveat banning this specific response! I got the oil cooler sandwich plate second and and already have the sensor plate so would rather not just buy more things.

    Oil Sandwich plate order

What order do people run their sandwich plates (assuming they have two)? Most of the ones I've seen are as below, sensor take off first followed by oil cooler: I've been thinking that this doesn't make any sense. Since both plates affect the outer channel of the oil path, and the oil filter...

    Sheered head bolt

Thanks, can someone confirm the e-torx size so i can have a look online at options.

    Sheered head bolt

Is there a point that they do become necessary?? My comments suggesting I won't take the head off again aged well as I assembled with standard bolts only to have to strip it down again. I'm looking at the ARP stud kit, it is indeed expensive compared to the standard bolts and I'm not sure what...

Has anyone got the procedure for installing and sealing the flywheel end crank main bearing and crank seal?

Digging up an old thread so I can find it again! Does anyone half a link to the sealant you should use? Is it the same sealant as you use on the rocker cover? I assume you want it in a caulking gun cartridge or similar?

    The PH1 172 Appreciation Thread.

God ph1s look good on 2118s!!! I was so town with these an PR1.2s, ultimately it was a track car so went for the lighter option.

Does anyone have any recommendation for an engine rebore around south essex / London?

    Ph1 revival

Thanks Max, do I need new thrust bearings and to set them correctly or can I put my ones back in? It sounds like it is important what side they go in, so perhaps I've screwed up a little taking them straight out. And don't worry, I will take the block to a machine shop for measurement and at...

Steering angle sensor - 172 cup owners

Exactly what I wanted to hear. I will bin mine and be done with it.

Steering angle sensor - 172 cup owners

Do the 172 cups have a steering angle sensor? I have a ph1 track project and I think I have broken the steering angle sensor. I don't have ABS or traction control so I am questioning if I really even car if the sensor doesn't work and just rip it out. I wanted to check if this sensor is used...

    Ph1 revival

Spent some time getting the engine stripped yesterday evening to some interesting results. Really hoping there are some guides for reassembly... A lot of these pictures are mainly to help me remember where stuff goes and what way around it goes. These little thing intrigued me a little. If...

    Ph1 revival

Thanks, Once the machine shop has a look i will decide. I'm not necessarily committed to keeping this block, but anything I can find online will need most of the same work anyway (hone and a face minimum) so may as well stick with this block until I know its a dead end.

    Ph1 revival

Not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing being able to pull one of these engines in about 2 hours. Either way, it out now and I got the car back to a state of rolling, need to get some CV ends to protect the wheel bearings. Still had a lot of light left so whipped the head off to have a...

That would just end up wasting all of the mods ive done on the engine already though. If i had room I'd consider getting that as a second engine while I fix my one and just swap them back later... If i had the space.

womp womp! Back from my various travels and did a great job at forgetting all about the car! but im back now and the weather is looking up so I've started stripping the engine down. Hoping next week to pull the engine and start stripping the block down to go off to a machine shop. I have been...

    Forged pistons on standard rods?

I agree, it could be done as cheaply as possible, and don't get me wrong I am not completely decided on which path to take. However in my head it will be very disheartening to spend the time pulling the engine to change the block and getting a new one honed and some new rings only to be exactly...

    Forged pistons on standard rods?

So my engine failed a compression test and I'm 99% sure it's the piston rings and a scabby cylinder that is the cause. Full story here: https://cliosport.net/threads/ph1-revival.847226/ Trying to turn failure into a silver lining im leaning more towards a rebore and oversized pistons (I also...

    Ph1 revival

So had a little think about this, I'm away for a while so will potentially revise as time goes on but, as I see it, there are a few options: Hone the current block with a home honing kit and upgrade to 197 pistons and new rings - I know this is probably a dead end, but since I'm going to pull...

Damn, OK, will speak to my machine shop and see what they think. I'd love to be able to get away with a hone and new rings (and 197 pistons) but lets see.

To be honest, bottom ends are not my strong point, would you be able to elaborate on your last comment about the bores not looking good? are you referring to the slight pitting on cylinder 4? As that one was still coming up with good pressure. Cylinder 1 was showing a little corrosion at the...

    Ph1 revival

Short update and unfortunately not a good one. I was a bit concerned how much it was chuffing out the oil breather when I got it started so run a compression test... Cylinder 1: 50psi Cylinder 2: 175psi Cylinder 3: 180psi Cylinder 4: 175psi Checked and rechecked cylinder 1 hoping I had done...

I've shunted to the perm live. bridging to the switch could draw too much current for the wiring and blow a fuse. I turn the battery isolator off when the ignition is not on so it wont drain the battery. But yes, i should probably find a more appropriate solution. Interesting to know that the...
