Made a start on fitting some new engine and gearbox mounts. I had a receipt for a gearbox mount bought by a PO but when I removed the battery this is what I found
A standard gearbox mount. Who knows what happened to the solid one!
Rather than buying just a vibratechnic gearbox mount it made...
This is my first build thread so hopefully not to yawn! So i have known the car for several years whilst it was in a friends ownership, i had even helped build it through some lengthy late evenings at my unit rolling well into the earlys hours!
My friend was reluctantly selling due to...
...myself...i mean the clio to some new bits. Had mega running issues which I believe to be down to an injector so orderd 4 new. New vibratechnics mounts, correct boss with tabs for steering wheel, brembo HC’s, OEM rears and PBS pads front and back. Im off to go fit injectors now in the snow...
I picked up a set of vibratechnic engine mounts and a evol dog bone mount 2nd hand from the Facebook page. These were definitely needed as engine rocked the car like a big v8.
Meanwhile I was getting fed up with these parts just stacking up in spare room so I got on phone to Chris @beanie sport...
Polybush in the dogbone will make the world of difference. I'll be very surprised if that doesn't sort your issue out mate. I swapped each mount round on my 182 with the solid vibratechnics mounts i've got on my track car and it was the dogbone that got rid of my knocking on acceleration.
Ive fitted the vibratechnic mounts mate, enginge and gbox and i noticed an instant improvement, no front end swinging about when thE engine moves, it feels proper stiff and precise mate, one of the best mods ive done by far.
There's a big difference between cheap poly engine mounts and decent stuff like Vibratechnics.
I agree with you on excessively stiff stuff on the road, IMO there's a HUGE market for aftermerket stiffer rubber bushes.
You get a few here and there, but not the choice like Powerflex.
Yeah, good point on the Akrapovic exhaust, for the 200 anyway. Before the Mk 4 I was going for a 200, and wanted to put an exhaust straight on to it. Having looked and loads, there was no way I was putting an Akrapovic system on it. You're right... fur coat and no knickers! F**k the carbon, you...
Good topic !!
My best mods on the 182 have been the turbo, yeah its expensive but to almost double the power is well worth it. Its a road car not a track car so not sure it would be that great for track. Vibratechnic mounts are also fairly good, mine didnt introduce vibrations either.
Worst...
Do engine mounts suit certain cars? I'm only beginning to learn about this stuff so haven't got much that much knowledge as to their benefits. So for example as my Clio is a Mk4 with semi-auto gear box as opposed to a manual. Or are they better regardless?
Also, glad you mentioned poor bucket...
Favourite mod on the Clio: Vibratechnics engine mounts. Literally, the best thing I've ever done to modify any car. No more gearstick movement, no more engine trying to come through the bulk head, no more wheel hop.
Why any one replaces OEM mounts with new, s**t OEM mounts is beyond me.
Worst...
Dying coil packs tend to miss under heavy load, so that should help.
They have a rough idle, in the main.
The acoustic valve is probably stuck/held wide open, which isn't a concern.
Chop the standard engine mounts out for decent Vibratechnics ones, the OEM ones are utter pap; even when brand new.

...find the oil leak, and work out what's causing a mega vibration on hard acceleration. Assuming engine mounts so I'll swap over my vibratechnics mounts from the ph1 and see if it makes a difference. Dogbone looks fucked though so I need a new one of those since ph1's are different 😞
Another little update:
So I managed to get the vibratechnics mounts off the clio tonight and onto the megane engine and block tonight, I then set about getting the engine in and positioned roughly to see how much of the chassis rail needed manipulating.
After putting the engine in and out a...
The febi top engine mount is perfectly fine.
Gearbox mount can't remember the brand but it doesn't need to be Renault.
The febi part is 20 quid on eBay and is a perfect fit.
Then powerflex dogbone.
The vibratechnics are mega stiff from what I've seen.
Great news mate, awesome little cars, i would advise good tyres and brakes, a suspension refresh, powerflex dogbone mount and vibratechnic engine and gbox mounts.
Enjoy.
Copied over from the Megane Forum
Had my Megane 250 just over a couple of weeks now and thought it would be time to start a thread for it!
Bought it off a lad on this very forum, travelled all the way down London to get it and drove it back
Previous car was a Clio 182, which I bought...
...and it's a track car not show car, but it's a damn sight better than it was before!
Once it was dry we put it back in and fitted our Vibratechnics upper engine mounts!
Need to buy an Evol Race dogbone mount to match them now but not worrying about that anytime soon.
Now the engines in...
Ive got vibratechnics engine mounts and an evol dogbone already, and powerflex purple arb bushes as they came up cheap.. fitted but unused
On epas so no rack bushes for me... modified the dci rack mount one end so its got a 3rd mounting bolt rather than the standard 2 on that rack
Just need to...
yeh if you can buy back do so 100%
note tbh the interior stuff if you dont have roof for it leave it in the car ive sat on seats n the like for ages in the end dumped in a diffrent shell lol

...constructed the mount (without the little square) leaves a couple of mm play around the bolt. This is (with the abuse of my Schrick cammed engine) not going to be stopped by a nut that's tightened to 44NM
Shame the people at Vibratechnics did not copy this construction from the oem mount
...on this on is 44NM (?) The OEM mount had a "square" hole where the engine-part of the mount would precisely slide/fit over.. The Vibratechnics has a round hole, with room for play : the bolt has movement in it even when tightened up. I can see metal shaving from the movement , not good...
