Why the hell wont my car go more than 80MPH?

How hard is it to remove a front wheel bearing? My drivers side bearing has laods of play in it and the passeneger side is just grinding and it failed the M.O.T, silly me i didnt check them :o

I have a mk1 clio, when i am driving below 50mph theres a very loud droning noise and it can only be heard from inside the car and it seems like its coming from the left side of the car. Also the noise stops when i go above 50mph Could it be the wheel bearing? cheers matt
