Wifey's Clio has a section of rust on the rear sill and will need a patch; probably two inches wide by eight inches long.
How much am I looking at to have this welding done (I can do the paint)
Can anyone recommend anyone in the Southampton area that can do this at a reasonable cost?
..also, how does the door card come off? I have removed the torx screws from both the bottom edge of the panel and the door opener handle but it refuses to budge. I don't want to go snapping it!
Thanks all; I'll try some oil and if that fixes it get a new barrel on order.
Quick question regarding the door card removal; how do you remove the windy handle for the window? Is it just a pull-off one? Reason for asking is that we had a Skoda a while ago and I pulled the handle only to find...
Hi Guys,
Wifey's Clio has developed a problem with the drivers side lock. It locks OK but won't unlock - the key just turns (Stiffly).
Anyone experienced this problem before, if so, what was it?
I'd like to get the bits together to fix it before taking the door apart, if possible. I don't...
There's a non-return mechanism in the pump which ensures the pump is kept primed and there is water in the tubes leading to the jets. When this fails all the water falls back into the tank by gravity.
With all the stuff about Clio bonnet catches releasing at speed, I wondered whether it's worth fitting the Clio with a couple of bonnet pins?
If you have done this what type of pins/catches did you use? What did you secure the ends of the pins to, under the bonnet?
Are "Aerocatches" any good...
Thanks to all who contributed to this thread-much appreciated!
A mention must also go to Mike @ Hopkins Autoworks in Totton who had a device to read the ECU codes and managed to remove the rusty CAT securing nuts!
Something banging against the firewall? We had a "clonk" on the pax side of the car but it sounded like it was behind the glovebox. It was the washer motor bushes getting tired; the motor was bouncing up and down and hitting the firewall.
Other thought is maybe a spanner or something left under...
Not sure of the fuel setup on the Clio, but try removing the fuel cap then try starting. I have known other cars exhibit this symptom and it was a blocked breather to the fuel tank; fuel was getting sucked out but a partial vacuum formed in the tank pulling the fuel back again.
It's a long shot...
Reminds me of a funny story.
Few years back a friend had a very old mini. Think it was made around '63 and a complete wreck but nonetheless it was his car, quite rare and delicate and he was very particular about it.
Anyway, one day he agreed to lend it to someone as their car was off the...
We have a dashboard rattle, well it's more of a "clonk" when going over bumps.
Sounded like it was coming from inside the dashboard over the passenger side. Turns out it's the wiper motor bushes getting tired allowing it to bang on the bulkhead!
I'll post this here in the hope that it helps someone searching the forum in the future. Mods, please delete or move as you see fit.
Whilst fixing an early MK2 Clio have discovered that all of the following thermostat part numbers are equivalent and interchangeable:
Renault:
77 00 868 980...
Took it to the local garage and connected up his diagnostic computer. All the sensors appear to be functioning correctly and the readings for various things all appeared to be correct.
The old cat was pretty well rusted into place so it may well be the original factory fitted one.
Have fitted...
I'll post what I have discovered and maybe it'll help anyone searching the forum in futire for the same problem:
Petrol cars post 2001 all have to be fitted with an OBDII compliant connector by law. Any OBDII code reader should work with any car from 2001.
Some cars before 2001 were fitted...
Any easy way to test? (I can check the heater resistance with a meter) The MOT guys said it wasn't the sensor because the Lambda reading was OK...does this necessarily ring true?
Is it work getting a local garage to connect it to their diagnostic machine? How much should/would such a test cost...
Update:
Have replaced the temperature sensor-no change. However, the gauge has been reading higher this afternoon; the weather has been warmer.
If I remove the plug from the temperature sensor the gauge drops to zero but the fan cuts in-is this correct?
If I then plug in the old temperature...
I have tried an AL319 from Autel and an old Elm clone connected to a laptop.
Autel have been very good, even answering my email on a Sunday! They are looking into it so maybe I just have old stock without all the protocols loaded?
The Elm, well, I can understand that not being compatible...
Heh, not down this way! Found one motor factor open and they don't have the part.
Motorworld don't have it either so off to Halfrauds in a min to see what they have got.
We used to have probably four or five 'useful' places open on a Sunday but not any more unfortunatey.
Edit: Even GSF in...
With regards the temp dial, I would assume that halfway would be normal, but it generally sits at about a quarter. I was told that was normal for a Clio, especially during cold weather...
Having said that I don't know what's "normal" for a Clio!!
So it's likely to be the lambda sensor, even though the lambda reading is 'normal'?
What I couldn't fathom is why the CO reading was high/unstable but the other readings were within limits. As the CAT is supposed to get rid of CO and HC I'd assumed that if it was faulty then both CO and HC...
Hi Guys,
Took the wife's Clio in for an MOT today and it failed on emissions!
Slow idle test was fine..
Fast idle the car failed on CO levels, 0.625 and 0.492 (The pass level is 0.3). HC and Lambda readings were passes, HC readings were well below the limits.
The CO readings on the machine...
