I'm also hoping to race soon and likely to go towards tricolore. I have a friend or two interested so I may explore the MSV option too. I think you're right about requiring a novice so you'd be kicked out after your 6. But I also thought they did another level which wasn't aimed at novices and...
Is it just as simple for the mount under the battery? Sure I'll figure it out when I come to do it but might as well get a heads up to any useful tips.
Got excited because @massivewangers ordered some, so @Russ_16v now has an order from me too.
This is an interesting development. Still building mine and was going to go eibachs/cup dampers, but maybe I'll consider some coilovers. Will there be some published regs soon @Tony Hunter ?
I stick mine on the ramp after work and use the Hunter! It's pretty impressive what the kit will detect. It can be a pain to set up depending on the rims, if bits are seized it gets awkward to adjust too, so I can kinda see why it's expensive getting it done right, even though it's not...
I have no talent at all but I plan on doing a few races. Someone needs to come last... Might as well be me!
Engine mounts standard I think but polybushed suspension allowed.
Was great to meet you Adam and @bob the builder! Looked like you two were having a fantastic 2nd race. Seemed to be swapping positions constantly. (I was the guy quizzing you in the paddock. Hopefully be out with you next year!) It looked like a three horse race to begin with, but Paul(?) seemed...
I have a random piece of plastic with electrical tape! My plan is to CAD something up and ask my friend to 3D print me one. Might even design in a go pro mount or something.
Front bumper grill, right side. There's a round hole and it goes through that and into the bumper structure. There should be a standard tow eye in the toolkit in the spare wheel.
Upwards towards the roof. I just need to put a spring washer in under the eye bolt so that it ends up with the eye parallel to the tunnel. At the moment it's more like 45 degrees. I'm not too worried though as on both sides the belt load would act to tighten the bolt rather than loosen it.
I got some smaller spreader plates from @markfishy which he recommends for use in the tunnel (it's double skinned there) and for anti submarine straps. He does a lot of race cars and said it isn't a problem at scrutineering. I'll try to grab some pictures.
I took mine round there completely standard. Biggest problem I had was my tyres going off after 3-4 laps. Everything else seemed fine. Oh, apart from the wheel nearly falling off, make sure you check your wheel bolts as the heat has a tendency to back them off! I went out with an instructor who...
Perfect, that's exactly what I'd bought with the job in mind. Thanks for the response. Hopefully get mine cleaned up this week ready for some welding help next week.
I'm on a stag weekend so can't make brands, which is a shame as it's close to my parents. I have the Silverstone and Snetterton weekends noted in the calendar though in a hope of coming along.
Looks great. I'm going to have to get sorted and give this racing thing a go next year if I can! Although I didn't think there'd be much handbrake action going on!
I unplugged the air bag ecu and the side impact things. My plan was to use RS Tuner to turn the airbag light out, but that isn't possible. So decided to accept the light, cut nothing, and bundle the loom out of the way. If I was racing I'd maybe chase the weight, plus I'd love a nice tidy loom...
Argh that is annoying. I just refitted my dash today, wasn't tooooo bad. I came close to cutting my loom back too but I'd seen a few horror stories, so I pulled it up over the back of the dash bar and it's all coiled up where the airbag used to be. Lucky escape I guess!
I also got the Stanley knife out and just cut the foam off at the heater. I've been super lazy so far and left the foam in on the driver's side as the pedal box is there lol. I'll get round to it but need to focus on getting it on track, can tidy up next winter.
Anyone know if the two production class guys are on the forum? I'm contemplating trying to enter that in the future and it would be interesting to chat to someone who is in it.
Haha. Mines in the garage looking pretty similar. The top dash comes out so easily you might as well whip the bottom dash out next... At least that's what I thought! Need to put it back soon but I think it might be tricky.
Is it much harder to add an additional hole and plate? I think it would be my preferred option. In a crash you would have extra load through the bolt from the harness, but it would probably be fine. I'd be more concerned that if the cage did punch through the floor or something it would take the...
I was thinking earlier about how to plug the hole my aerial left. I was thinking I might be able to buy a suitably sized grommet, clearly I wasn't thinking redneck enough!
