As Colin Chapman once said: "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere."
If it is a trackday weapon I would start by the cheapest solution: loose weight.
As James363 said, power comes with big bills on these cars so aim for the handling and...
I would buy a £500 172 myself and do my own trackdays whenever I want to. And with a bit of luck you get a daily car at the same time.
Written agreements are never a good sign for something like this...
Assuming that you already stripped the car as much as possible (or acceptable for you) I would go with option a).
Taking advantage of a better tyre on track is something that requires some track time and experience while a new and stiffer suspension (not too much or you will be fighting with...
Thanks for the post @masekwm
The thing about being local ish is cause still need to do the mot so long distances are not advisable :)
But can you send me his contact and see if you can go from there?
How down is on the M3?
Cheers

Hi everyone,
Finally decided to go for the half roll cage fitting (after buying it 3 months ago...) but I'm struggling to find a place where I can buy the foot plates and weld them.
The car is prepared (paint off and primed) so just need someone that can sell me a steel sheet, cut it (I have...
With the standard seats and helmet, Im kind of stuck between the seat and roof  but it's doable. The thing is that with the standard seats I can recline and get a more or less confortable driving position. And with the buckets that's impossible...
Maybe I'll watch for the next...
Thinking about buying a pair of this.
Can anyone tell me what else do I need to fit them on a Ph2 172?
Subframes? What type? Do the included runners work on the clio or it depends on the subframe (if needed)
Thanks for the help guys
On the 5th July.
Was a full day car/bike trackday from MSV and really enjoyed it! The downside was the track time as the bikes were in 2 groups so basically had 20min per hour... and with the rain the "ayrton senna's wannabees" caused red flags all the time...
But got the chance of driving on...
Hi!
Just bought a "dismantled" roll cage and I'm looking for someone with enough welding skills to put it back on my 172 for a reasonable price. Anywhere around London would be perfect but can take the 172 and all the tubes anywhere
Thanks
(sorry if this is not the best section for this...
Very sorry guys for not showing up. The driveshaft change didn't went that well (wrong part from the supplier, as usually...) and the car had to stay on stands... And no net access around to let you know.
I hope to be at Castle Combe trackday next 5/Jun so hope see someone from here there!
1PM good for me too. I'll be replacing a driveshaft on my 'deadly' track weapon  in the morning so hopefully by that time it will be ready to go!
Hi all,
I'm Rui and I live in London. I work on Finance now but spend my last 4 years as a AUDI race engineer for an GT racing team (yap, AUDI... can't be perfect).
Being a petrol head since I remember, just decided to buy, with a friend, a little toy for some trackdays so bought a 2003 Clio...
