If it's any help, I have an FN2 daily and 172 cup in the garage for summer fun. I dailied the 172 for 150k miles with very few problems but I have to say the FN2 is an improvement on it in terms of driver comfort (although it's a very stiff ride) That said I far prefer the driving experience...
Hi all,
My son turns 17 next year and is desperate to get behind the wheel.
In terms of getting him into a car I think I'm down to the following options...
1, Buy him a cheap, slow shed to insure himself but worry about reliability and safety
2, insure him as a named driver on my 08 Civic...
That's good advice, thanks for the reply.
It really is a rabbit hole and I am a little concerned about doing the wrong thing but like you guys say I think it's best to start simple and go from there.
I'll watch a few more videos to get a feel for what I need but I'll no doubt be back on here...
I tend to stick with autoglym shampoo for washing as that's what I've always used. I need to up my washing game as I've not paid too much attention to things like 2 bucket method and using the right sort of mitts etc. The forensic detailing video has opened my eyes a bit to different products...
Great advice, thanks mate. I'll put some pictures up when I've done it.... looks like this could end up being an expensive and time consuming new hobby!!
I've got plenty of that too, I was thinking meguires ultimate compound followed by SRP and a wax to be decided?!
After a good wash and clay of course...
Don't laugh but I hot a halfords voucher from work for Christmas so I thought I'd go for their own brand DA polisher 😬 (Not ordered it yet though)
Like I say I'm a novice so maybe it would be a good starting point?!
Cheers that's great advice.
I'm looking forward to getting started and seeing how good a finish I can get. The good thing is that it's inside and I can really take my time to get it right.
The paint is really tatty as you'd expect for a 18 year old 160k motor but I'm not too precious about...
Hi all,
I'm going to have a go at machine polishing my Clio. I'm pretty happy with most aspects of the job but am a little confused about the final wax/sealant stage. Looking online there seem to be a million different products so I thought I'd see what people on here would recommend, bearing...
My cup passed this week too... just a rusty exhaust heat shield and a bit of travel in the handbrake were the only advisories.
Mine's gone on the SORN list now...keeping it out of the elements for the winter!
Yours is looking good 👍
Hi all,
It's nearly time for my 172 Cup's annual hibernation in the garage so it'll be having a good wheels off wash before it goes away. Can anybody recommend any products/techniques for a really good clean inside the arches, particularly the plastic arch liners which look a bit tatty.
Also...
I think so but I think it had a 10/12 year limit on the corrosion warranty. Lots of people found Honda wanted a full dealer history before they'd do the work too.
If you can, have both like me! I kept my 172 cup which I've had from new for my weekend toy and I have an '08 FN2 for my daily.
A word of warning now, I've just shelled out quite a bit on suspension bits and pieces on my civic so I suspect they are reaching an age where they'll need a bit of...
It's £150 for a retrim of your existing wheel, I think that includes postage. I paid a little bit more to have one retrimmed that he had in stock so I could keep my original wheel. Worth every penny in my opinion 👍
Good luck with the refurbishment Ian, you won't regret it.... I've been using mine as a daily since I retaxed it. Just can't leave it alone!
We need to start a 172 cup club for Ians 🤪
Im inclined to agree. I am trying to tackle a different mechanical job each spring (1st year recommisioning and belts, 2nd year suspension etc ) and do the cosmetic stuff in the winter when the car is laid up and it's too cold to be out in the garage too much!
I've got my head firmly in the sand...
Fitted the new snappy trimmed wheel today and didn't break anything which was a result!
Heres the before and after snaps...
To say I'm pleased is an understatement, the interior is looking so much better. Just need to find some mint front seats and it'll be perfect!
I'm pleased with the yokos so far, plenty of grip when I was throwing it into the bends earlier. I thought I'd go for them over the ps3s just because the car is only for occasional dry trips. If it was a daily I'd definitely have gone for the Michelins. Ive had yoko tyres before on my classic...
