And so here it is, maybe my final post here ?
The Clio is finally gone, and while I’m sad to see the end of a chapter, I’m happy it ended in the best possible way.
As mentioned before, I gave the clio to a colleagues brother who fell in love with it even in its smashed out state, and I couldn’t...
Haha no way ! Somebody on YouTube did ask me if they could use it, chances are it’s the same guy.
How people finds that sort of stuff so entertaining is beyond me haha
Anyway, hi !
I’ve been Clio less since January, however the car never left.
I have the privilege of living in a place where...
Haha I’ll be breaking mine soon so just shout if you need anything.
I have normal 172/182 shaft on the “wet” pass side, 172 cup (no centre bearing) on the driver side.
Abs bearing topic: it varies depending on what you have to start with. All I had to do was changing the rear abs sensors to...
Crazy prices right .. done are the days of mk2 for £50, I swear some people have been paid to take them away in the past [emoji38]
Still not sure what to do with mine [emoji848]

And back we are from a fun weekend at cadwell.
I had an open pit lane booked with Javelin with some credit I had from a previous event I couldn’t attend.
Always wanted to experience cadwell park, looks brilliant fun, and it was.
The days leading to it where spent mostly sourcing...
Just to keep the diary up to date, I’ll “log” some of the issues I’ve had during the last few months.
As previously said, the car has driven an absurd amount of miles between June and July because of a stupid long commute.
First problem was with my rear wheel bearings. I’ve had 2 fail in a...
Nothing really from the driver seat. Same exact artificial throttle response, same exact 80ish hp “performance”.
I am more interested on the impact this will or will not have on fuel economy, which has always been the main point of the car.
Quite happy with it now, however I feel these are...
Yo!
Update on the life of Padre Clio.
Last week I finally got round changing the cambelt. This is officially the second cambelt this car gets in my ownership, although long time traders will (won’t) remember I had to do it twice with the red car as I forgot to fit the lower timing cover after...
When I said “official oil consumption figures” I didn’t mean they came from Renault [emoji38]
It’s just the exact calculated consumption after topping up the entire month.
I am dropping the kat soon to have a look, whenever I manage to actually move in my new house this will happen. Probably at...
So, time to update as life has changed both for me and for the little car that propels my ass from A to B, the diesel clio also known as Padre Clio, which is a funny sounding profanity that you won’t understand unless you’re Italian. Ironic way to start after becoming a British citizen two weeks...
I’m not one to be trusted on electrical repairs but if it only charges once past 1500 for the first time the exciter wire is likely to not work properly.
I have a new regulator kicking about as I could not fit it to mine because of the different exciter plug, I can take a picture next time I’m...
What’s your pulley situation ? Did the old one have a freewheeling one? I’m guessing the new one didn’t come with one at all..
On mine I had belt chirp no matter how new the belt and how good the tensioner. Ended up being the pulley, even though I couldn’t find anything wrong with it.
I would...
Ive had the pedal link ball joint jobbo fail on me,, and I’d rather take a steering rack out tbf.
and I fear having to do the clutch cable at some point t so I did it while reshelling the car.
How you did it with everything in place is beyond me, as from memory it sits behind the sound deadening...
Ive had my fair share of dramas with jubilee clips on CV boots. Personally I prefer the proper clips. Don’t like the idea of the worm bit spinning at vtec rpm!!
Not sure about the pikey route, but there should be a dangling plug (can be purple, can be white) if no switch is installed.
the switch fits inside a cutout in the pedal box, it's a 90 degree twist kind of deal, no fasteners or clips.
I had to buy mine, which was the purple type (looked blue to...
Time to write a quick summary just to keep the diary up to date;
Not many miles at all, as previously mentioned my commute is quite short and primarily urban, the car does hardly any work at all. Most of the graft is done by the two front lower ball joints trying to cope with London’s speed...
jeez @Brigsy, all I did was turn around for a minute and wtf next thing I see the head is off ??
Please keep reporting on the ghetto rehone jobbo, I'm interested.
Thanks for your words guys, I’m extremely happy with the car after all the work, so much so that I’ve recently shot a DIY “Chris Harris hold my beer” video of it, trying to present in the best possible way how this sort of configuration ie diesel eco box with nice chassis is for me the way to go...
Cought up with the recent developments @Brigsy, your fuel economy is unreal !
My 80 does primarily city miles withe the odd motorway drive, but I've never been above 62mpg.
Your figures make me think I'll probably have to get both the kat and EGR back on, hopefully that's the trick !
I also had functioning Cruise control the first time I retrofitted it due to getting the wrong clutch switch.
The result is just a much more “crude” operation of the system but it will detect the car slowing down and disengage.
It’s obviously better to have the clutch switch (and the right one...
Good evening everyone, I’ll update this thread in a different way this time.
Since the last post I have not done a single thing on the Clio, other than switching over to summer tyres when time came.
Fairly happy, considering that my main goal when buying this car 4 years ago was reliability and...
Time to update this, not much to report, the car works fine and gets me from A to B with ease, average fuel economy round town is 57 real Mpg which I think isn’t too bad.
I’ve been fighting with the damn rain sensor for a couple of weeks.
This black car has an aftermarket screen fitted, and...
both cars look spot on, shame for the A/C troubles.
I recycled all seals when reshelling the red dCi and was lucky.. climate control still working great after a year now !
Aaaand we’ve clocked 150k, time for an oil and filter change.
Was pleased to find a dry engine bay, nothing leaking underneath, even the undertray was mint. Cleaned it up from the dirt and back on.
5L of Helix 5w40 and a new genuine filter.
Nothing else to report really. I still...
