It's entirely possible they changed the design to stop it from breaking. When I put new cables on my Megane they were slightly different but were beefed up to stop them from breaking

The balls on the selector arm for the gearbox very rarely wear it's usually the cable
I cable tied the selector on my Megane which worked for a while I til I could replace the cable
Bad company 2. The amount of hours I sat flying an Apache or a Havoc was disgusting

You can swap the cables out. There are 2 coloured cables on the dCi 100. A blue one and a white/grey one. There's 4 torx bolts that hold the unit together and then you can swap the cables. The hardest part is getting the selector out...
