Unfortunatly you should tell them if you make any real changes to your car - even ones that will have no effect on performance. For example if you put new alloys on your car and don't tell them they could potentially turn down your claim if your car or wheels are stolen as they will claim that...
I had a similar thing, going round a long corner onto motorway at about 60 for 10 secs, near the end the red light and stop came on - no loud bang.
