Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

Yes it feels fast enough etc..I am just a fussy b*****d and want to make sure everything is as it should be :) I am sure the car could be better..maybe I should just leave it alone for a while Lol

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

172 Nm @ the wheels (edit - long flat curve). Now I must add something here - 18 months back I was managing the same pwr figs and 10 Nm more with a custom tune from Henk. Top end pwr obviously dropped off a lot quicker on std cams..now holds long and strong...but...prior to fitting cams a...

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

This is a odd point franx - in Aust a std clio (172 & 182's) will produce around 100Kw ATW so mine is in fact higher in pwr in Aust @ 110Kw / 0-62 mph in mid to low 6 seconds - go figure? :-) I would love that explained to me.

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

Yep 110 kw ATW. As mentioned for some reason local 172 (& 182's mind you) generally produce around 100 Kw ATW. Everyone sort of accepts this here as fact. Why would this be the case? Perhaps UK rolling roads are more optimistic than Australian ones. We have about 2 V6 Clios here imported by...

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

Sorry - yes locking tools both ends. The mech Barry is from the UK - much experience on these cars. All OE tooling. Does about 50 belts a yr.

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

OK thanks Fred. That's interesting re the pwr figs. Most if not all 172 RSC's in Aust are lucky to see low 100Kw / or just above ATW in std trim so well under 172 as per the cars name. No I didn't check any markings on the fly wheel (trust mechanic) I watched Barry tighten the pulley's with...

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

James - where would I get one of those what looks like a V6 box from? I like the set up. I was thinking of moving batt as you have done and laying ECU flat. Is this what you have done?

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

Re leak down..no. That is really what should be done. Fred - we actually had to do the cams twice. If you remember I had a few dodgey lifters. The crank was pinned correctly, cam tool locked firmly in place..not sure what else one can do? Can anyone translate 110Kw ATW into fly BHP? What...

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

Hi Fred / Danny - the cams are the ED Mk II. They were fitted using all OE tooling and done by our local snr Renault tech at my place so I partook in the work so can confirm it all went in correctly. Idle MAP @ 1100 is ~420 mb which seems normal for these cams. Car idles well, has good torque...

I think that's sideways danny? Fred too rings a bell. These guys have been a tremendous help before. It's bed time down under so will drop in again in 8 hrs :-)

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

Nah it's a Green Cotton panel and I keep it clean. It's something else.. For example I have seen a data log of a car running my map (cam retarded at about 6800) same cams..the 02 voltage drops right off as the mixture leans out on that car as the cams really come on song. My car..nuthin :-)...

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

Yep I have matched inlets. As a comparison I am seeing 110Kw ATW what ever that works out to in BHP at the fly? Incidently as I have been advised one can expect a fair variation in F4R output from the factory. Mine always produced figures a little lower than other in basic std trim. It uses no...

Should I replace OE induction after fitting cams?

Hi guys - (have 2002, 172) I have fitted cams a while back and got modest gains. Now the thing is during tuning with Henk my car didn't really display a rapid voltage drop from the front OE narrow band 02 sensor indicating the car was not flowing a lot of extra air up top. Now with the OE box...

    Where'd me power go??

Thanks John. Food for thought. My knock signal 'looks' fine on the RSTuner but sometimes does a few odd 'gaining' up and down actions but could be normal. Henk seems to see nothing unusual. I'll keep an eye on things. 35 pound for a knock sensor :) I bet here in Aust they are 8 times the...

    Where'd me power go??

Hi Tom - here is the 1st pwr run when logging last weekend. Notice the ambient reading drops rapidly at WOT. Now the actual ambient would have been 1020 mb where I was. The MAP over the run lost 14 mb from start to end. All parameters look fine re advance etc doing around 28 deg at 6K > Kc kicks...

    Where'd me power go??

Now that's an interesting comment there John. My knock sensor has been doing some odd things of late. How did you know to target the sensor if you don't mind me asking?

    Where'd me power go??

@ Tom - I use the RSTuner PA feature. I am very careful how I use this. I have found it compares very well with RR's I have used withion about 1% error. Not bad! I'll check the closed throttle at high RPM later tonight. I generally see 14-18 mb pressure drop on MAP data from 2000-7000 RPM. At...

    Where'd me power go??

Going to leave the cams out of this discussion as I am trying to figure out what happened before fitting the cams. Otherwise it might descend into discussions about which cams are what / why etc. So you think compression test and also check out coil pack, plugs, leads. Car drives fine though...

    Where'd me power go??

Yep that would be the easiest way to look at things :-) Re deactivation of cam advance Henk simply said normally there is no need to deactivate..I added 'unusual' comment. Got to whach my quoting!

    Where'd me power go??

What about the cam dephaser solenoid? Do these ever cause issues? I have tested it via simple listening with the RSTuner however am not 100% that it is travelling full range and passing oil pressure. Henk said he had to 'deactivate' cam advance in the upper RPM to max power out of new cams which...

    Where'd me power go??

Yep timed up correctly. Nothing had changed between 110 kw and 100 kw (base run) prior to fitting cams except 24 months passed. I am using RSTuner PA. Testing done on same location essentially nearly the same weather conditions e.g 10 degs ambient, air pressure 1024 mb, no wind etc. Multiple...

    Where'd me power go??

Hello all - recently I added new cams to my May 02 build 172. Before fitting new cams I did base power runs and maxed out at 100 kw ATW & approx 160 Nm. Now here's the thing, 24 months prior I was consistently turning out 110 kw ATW and approx 180 Nm. So somewhere in those 24 months I dropped...

Engine ticking - new belt kits, cams & lifters

Did first data logs today and will send off later. AFR's are very rich currently into the low 12's and high 11's. I suspect Henk loaded me up with a safe base map to start from. I'll keep in touch.

Engine ticking - new belt kits, cams & lifters

I was advised to by cam supplier as egnine has done 100 tho kms. I just thought advice was correct. I still have old ones. Can I reuse? I suspect they need to go back in the same positions? I was quoted $1500 for 16 over er in South Aust!!! My lordy... Have been quoted 350 pound plus postage...

Engine ticking - new belt kits, cams & lifters

Turns out my lifters I purchased are non-genuine. Certainly after getting a small pipe into the oil filler and listening it sounds pretty horrible in there. Seeking professional help now locally for 2nd opinion although I have pretty well exhausted my local help option already! lol.
