Make sure the two tangs (highlighted in red) are loacted properly into the grooves cut out on the side of the block, if not this will cause the tensioner to be moving about.

have you checked the pistons in the calipers are free, could be a seized/seizing caliper, un bolt the caliper from the carrier ask someone to push the pedal with little pressure and see if the piston moves out (careful not to make it pop right out), then push it back in. if its seized repeat...

Hold the button in on the end of the wiper stalk and turn on the ignition this will make all the lights come on on the instrument panel, look and see if the speedo is moving if it isn't your probably going to have to take it all back out and check the clocks

you can solder the wires yeah, or another option is go to a breakers and find a good connector cut it and solder it in place then that way if you ever have to take the seats out you can just unplug it
