I have the exact same starting issue with my '03 172 - however I am also having probs with trip computer resetting overnight, which has been discussed in other threads and is suspected to be related to the battery being on the way out. I'm pretty sure the battery I have is the original, so...

Yes, please do report back!! It'll be interesting to see whether it solves the problem... Mine also is showing no usual signs of a battery on the way out. One other thing I've noticed is A/C settings reset overnight.. \\/\///

My 03 172 is doing the same, though it seems to do it overnight. If I use the car several times in the one day, it's OK. Also, in the morning when it's cold it never starts on the first attempt. Always starts straight away on the second attempt. Anyone else had this?
