If your talking about the rear ones then you need to rewire the connector following the guide on here.
If you've done that and its still doing this you may have blown a fuse/no grounding/connections touching/normal electrical faults when mucking about with things
Been on the phone to euro car parts, and <apparently> they now do 172 rear shocks £21 a side.
I have the horrible feeling the wrong ones are going to turn up tomorrow...
I had a similar knocking noise when under hard acceleration in 1st gear only. Turned out the upper gearbox mount had decided to die.
Easy way to tell is the grab the engine by the plenum on the air box side and see if you can get the engine to move and make the gear box mount make a noise.
yeeea, but you can solder on an additional wire and run it behind the rear bumper to give a current to the other fog light. Not much point for the 3 times a year you use it.
Looks like mine.
My dipstick decided to leave it housing and get trapped up under the airbox TWICE. Each time most of the oil in the engine ended up in and on the front of the bay - horrible mess like that pic.
I've seen 54mpg from the ph1 trundling along at 65 on the flat. Bit boring, but saves the pennies.
(that is with the RS tuner re-map, before that could get move than 45mpg in the same situation)
Re: Insurance. Fookers! (young 172/182 owners look in)
Just renewed with elephant, who matched £928.40 quote from admiral.
20, 2 NCB, good postcode, no points.
Pretty good.
This. When at uni in a crowded congested town, with the heavy clutch and large speed bumps, it's not the best car to have.
But back home in the countryside down the B roads, can't beat it.
Great Success!
Turns out you can mount the plenum so that the back of it sits up slightly and the bolts still screw up. Surprising how such a small gap of only a few mm can bugger things up.
Also managed to shear off a bolt, so that took another 20 mins to get out. What a day/
Just been looking, tested the eye shaped seal under the plenum by putting oil on the rubber then seeing if when removed any was on block. Seems like the plenum wasn't sat correctly.
I'll report back....
Yea just been reading up, almost certainly an air leak.
Gaskets are on, looking like it could possibly be the rubber seal on the bottom of the plenum.
Could also be the TB to plenum join? is this meant to have a gasket?
As above, just swapped my inlets for matched ones, put everything back together - started up, engine rev to 5k on its own and then drops to a very rough idle and makes VERY nasty sounding pop corn bangs from the engine.
Any ideas? dont really want to send the pistons into the roof of the garage...
Hopefully getting a new Prospeed full decat system in a while, so as is well known changing the ph1 standard cat in for MOT time is a bit of a pain to say the least.
So my idea...
Having seen this:

Would it be viable do the a similar...
Mine also does this same thing from time to time - i found turning the car off and on again normally cured it. That ties in with it being alarm related
Well there is.
You'll still be getting a little under peak power in the extra rpm, rather than having to change up and drop back down the power curve. Staying in the same gear longer also means the top speed in each gear is higher, I enjoy hitting 70 in 2nd;)
Also now get 52mpg trundling along...
