Most is now sold, or people have expressed interest but not sent money yet.
These are still available at the moment:
Subframe
Rear Axle
Rear axle bushes
60mm Front calipers
Omex...
A big thanks to James Ash for posting this up on his Facebook page from which I subsequently got a huge amount of interest.
In the end it made sense to break the car into a rolling shell and other major components. The gearbox was collected during the week and the rolling shell went away...
I could be way off the mark, but considering what a Mk2 Cup Racer still fetches, i'd like to get 10.5k. It wouldn't take a huge amount of work or money to get it running.
Just adding up what some of the main bits are potentially worth if it was broken
Gearbox, subframe, shafts, hubs etc...
Sh*t happens I guess but life goes on. I've enjoyed the time spent building it, even if I didn't quite get it finished.
I don't really know what it's worth, hence why I've not put it in the for sale section yet, hopefully I don't get into trouble for sort of turning this into an advert
Shell...
Well I never managed to get any work done on the car last month but I did spend a lot of time looking at it and thinking long and hard about what to do with it.
I would have really liked to leave it sitting in the garage until circumstances changed and I was able to finish it but the way things...
Appreciate the comments, unfortunately it's an all too familiar issue that many folk go through when building a car.
As luck would have it, the tax man of all people has just thrown the car a lifeline!
Just got a nice cheque through the door [emoji51]
Credit has to go to my recently...
I've by no means decided to keep it yet, but if I'm not going to get a decent amount for it then I'll have no option but to keep it, as I said, there's far too much time and money gone into it to just give it away.
I was talking to the Mrs about it last night, and believe it or not she doesn't want me to sell it but understands the reasons why I've decided to try.
I'm not really sure what it's worth, either in bits or as an almost complete car with all the other parts I've accumulated but either way I'm...
This isn't really the sort of update I want to be making.
Those who've followed this thread will know progress over the past 2 years has unfortunately been almost non-existent and the last year I've not even had time to take the cover off it.
I knew when we moved house I'd have to put the car...
Lol, I've spent many a weekend when I was younger scrabbling about on a gravel driveway changing engines, gearboxes, suspension, wheel bearings.......you name it, so I know it can be done but it's far from ideal.
Building the wiring loom was something I was looking forward to but I need to be...
I'm sure there are plenty out there with better builds than this, that and the fact I've now been working on it for 4 years and I've still not finished it detracts from what it could have been had I got it built in a year or so. I appreciate the comment none the less though
Frustrating is...
I think yours is probably progressing better than mine now! How's the new garage build coming along?
I'm still in two minds whether to build the new garage before restarting work on the car. If I do build a new one it will probably delay work for another year if i'm being honest with myself...
Wouldn't say it's stopped, but it's certainly on hold :pensive:
As i'm sure most of you are aware, the oil industry is going through bit of a slump just now, I've still got a job, for now at least but I've already lost my bonus and things are generally pretty grim so while I may want to, it...
That's pretty much what I was thinking, a standard screen is easy and cheap to replace in comparison.
Don't think I could get the standard heater box to fit now but something like a T7 heater might be worth thinking about.
Having second thoughts about getting a heated screen...
Was talking to someone the other night who's had 3 of them in 2 seasons (not clio) 1 failed and 2 got burst with stones.
Got me thinking it's possibly a better idea just to have a standard screen and then do something to stop it misting up...
Only on the deck for the move, it'll be back up on stands soon enough.
Yeah that's the colour, the shell came pre-painted but the paint we got mixed up was miles off so just did the whole car. Got plenty of it left to do any repairs etc.
Due to my job, there's no way I could do a full season of...
Plenty folk that have got them, get a look on youtube for some videos.
It's a Renault colour, code is 369 if I remember.
The wheels will be going satin matt black, only because we've got loads of it left lol
Cheers for the comments lads.
It's great having the car at home, it'll make it a lot easier to get on with all the wee time consuming jobs I've been putting off but the budget has taken a pretty big hit buying the house so i'll just need to see how it goes over the next few months.
I've still...
Moving house has to be one of the most stressful things you can do but hopefully that'll be us for a the foreseeable.
Anyway, no sooner was the house half liveable, I was hatching plans to get the car and my tools into the garage.
It's only a crappy pre-fab concrete thing, the floor...
Pleased to hear that something can be salvaged.
Out of interest what sample rate are you monitoring oil pressure at?
Regards what caused it, all materials flex to some extent, thats a given, but i'm not sure I'd go along with crank flex being the reason for the bearing spinning.
I've spent a...
Depends how the clutch is used though?
I've stripped engines where folk have had a habit of sitting with the clutch in for too long, the thrust faces were completely wiped out, through to the copper or even the steel backing.
Any thrust bearing will take a bit of a beating when the clutch is...
What rating of pressure plate did you go for James?
I did wonder how a proper clutch would affect the pedal when I bought the AP one for mine. I was going to go for the one rated at 305lbft but I was advised that AP generally under rate the stated torque capacity so the one I went for the...
Lol, cheers Martin [emoji16]
Few minor updates from the odd day I've managed to get at the workshop recently.
Got the Astra PS pump mounted, managed to get it tucked right into the corner. Used part of the standard astra bracket with some bits chopped off and then added some new supports onto...
For a race car, it's all relative. So long as you can get the side looking right, you can adjust the axle to get your alignment back to where it should be.
Where else did it ping on the 1/4 panel? just at the base of the C-pillar near the window?
Cracking write up James, your car looks to be going really well.
Obviously a pity about the wee mishap with Russ but at least you both still managed to get a decent result at the end of it.
Have you strung the car to see how far the axle has moved?
Hard to tell but that 1/4 panel doesnt look...
:o cheers
If we get settled in a new house before the end of the year that's got a useable garage, I'm hoping to get it out before the end of next season but I've said that before and I'm still building it! Just need to hope I can remember how to drive and do it justice.
