Think I will make a set up , might get the headlights tinted as well to keep them useable for track days.

Looking good Neil!! Tempts me to do mine viper green even more now! Lol!
CM Composites do the headlight blanks as well.

Did you see the viper green one forsale recently ?

Will check them out for blanks, if not i will just gut a set of lights and paint them.

Having a bit of a nightmare with the electric steering, got it fitted and wired but the steering is notch almost like the motor is binding up seems worse when turning to the left.

Did get one of the front callipers fitted to check clearance with my proper spacers, and looks like i could maybe get away with a 10mm , but would rather stay hub centric.

Another  for the colour, suits the shape well.
What kind of electric power steering have you got?

Looks so mean. Calipers look awesome under there!! Bet they're a very expensive alternative to other 4 pots people fit to clios!?

Did yo spray the car yourself? Sorry if I've missed you mention it.

Im using a clio dci column Kenny with a looped cup rack, if it was hydraulic would say the pump was caveatting.

here is a quick video of the sound

NO a local body shop guy painted it for me for a price that was too good to pass up, its to back to get flatted and polished before the graphics go on. But after seeing the car built I think the graphics will be minimum.

The callipers would cost about £100 more than Megane ones, luckily they were free to me as they came off my car.

Nope not yet , I did think of that but with the upper part of the column removed it turns freely. I have also driven the car with the rack looped on the standard manual
column.

Nope the column is fed from an ignition live so the car doesn't need to be running, its the same with the engine running though you just can't hear it.
If I have time before going back to work I will unbolt the motor from the column and see if it spins freely.

Car is looking great Neil, really good.

To me that sounds like intermittent power being fed to the motor. I take it your wiring is right and you have tried playing with the dial.

iirc one of the guys in the epas thread had to get a new 'box of tricks' due to something similar.

Thanks Morgan.
I have checked the wiring with a meter and all seems fine, don't think i will have time to mess about with it before i go back to work but hope its something stupid.

Sorry mate just seen your PM

What size earth cable have to got on the motor? You probably used an 8mm supply with a 60amp fuse but have you used the same gauge wire for the earth?

I bought the column as a kit from SidMarx on here he had removed along with all the wiring. It is using the same gauge wire for power and earth.
I took the car up the road this morning and once up to about 20mph the steering feels fine.
I also removed the motor and it did initially spin then stopped, I'm not sure if it give a resistance feedback. As it then worked again when re fitted.

  Clio 172
Saw the car on the Clio FB page the other day, nice bit of kit Neil and loving the green (even if I did tink it was yellow on FB as I'm colour blind)

After reading up online the DCI column seems to be voltage sensitive , the battery in the car isn't the best so will get a full charge then run the car to see if it makes any difference. I did read a few reports of similar symptoms when a battery is dying even when the car is running ?
I take it the controller needs a torque feedback so if i jack the car up to lessen the load on the motor it may not work at all ?

Yeah if you jack the car up it won't work as there's no resistance for the motor to work against.
Measure the voltage at the battery and also at the column with the motor running. It needs to be the same or similar. You also need to measure the amps as well ideally but that's not as easy to measure. Your alternator may be on its way out too so measure from the alternator output, then the battery, then the column. You want next to no voltage drop at the battery from the alternator and I'd say no more than 0.5v difference at the column. I'm pretty sure these cars see a good 14v when running, but I can't say for definite. I can measure mine though if you need a reference value.
I take my voltage feed off for the column inbetween the alternator and battery with a fused link for safety.

I've seen a duff battery kill a boosted motor. Enough to start and run the car, but once under load it couldn't supply enough voltage to stop the ecu (pectel) going into default settings and not give enough fuel or ignition trim. The end result was a 4k repair bill for a £55 battery. Nice work eh!!

Im still having issues with the electric steering, I've moved the earths around and tested for continuity on all connections . Im showing just under 14v at the fused live to motor, at one point it looked to have been sorted and i could turn the steering freely but on the road test it was notchy then felt like no assist.

Well thats the car ready to get checked over on sunday by the scruitineers at Knockhill to see if it is up to blue book spec.
Im still not overly happy with the steering it seems fine once moving but still , feel like the motor is struggling at low speed.

Yes I lubed them the other day when doing the brakes, actually meant to take the sizes of the bearings to get some dust boots from McGill motorsport.
Ive still not disconnected the loop from the rack, to see if its hydraulically locking but every now and then it seems to clear and stationary I can turn the wheel with one finger.

Also made the clio a little shelter to try and keep the worst of the winter weather off it , until I get a proper roof over that area.

I'm guessing you have got the steering column ecu as well? Just asking as I saw no mention of it.

You will also need to wire a variable pot into the ecu to control it, or just buy the kit off ebay.
