    Second DIN Unit

Hi, Has any one managed to get a second DIN unit (i.e Something like Alpines in-dash DVD player) in the front of thier car ? I was thinking of maybe installing it in the glovebox. Is there room in a Mk2 172 (or any MK2 Clio) to fit a DIN unit in the glovebox ? Thanks Carl

    whats ure fav tyre

I used to have A520 on my Megane and now have A539s and I feel they are as good in the dry and much improved in the wet although the tread doesnt look nearly as cool !!! Not sure about durability yet but they seem to be lasting a bit better too. Not tried any other tyres yet, still my first...

    A Couple of Question’s

Sorry one more... 3) When using an Alpine Mobile Media H/U in UK spec (i.e. only one break sensor cable I think) To bypass the lockouts, do you just need to ground the cable or connect it to a positive source. I know this works for other units but dont know if the Alpine is different.

    A Couple of Question’s

Hi All, I am planning my install for the 172 when I get it and I am considering doing as much of the work I can, myself. 1) I am going to be replacing the battery with an Optima and was wondering what I need to be aware of when doing so. For example is there a valet mode on the alarm on...

    PS2

Does anyone know of an easy way (i.e. a wiring kit that you can connect cig lighter transformers to) that allows you to bypass the cig lighter and avoid having to have things plugged directly into it. ? Or is there another way to provide power to transformers or other accessories e.g a camera...

Best aftermarket exhaust for a 172

BenR - Do you know roughly how much the Cup exhausts would cost ? Who supplies them ? When I get mine I am not amazingly worried amout the looks would just like a bit more noise and the best perfomance benefits. Cheers, Carl

    Some t**t

A few months ago my dad was in a supermarket car park making a phone call in his car. While he was sitting there some driver reversed in the side of a brand new car (ca couple of days after the 02s came out) right in font of him. He had just been using his camcorder for some recording so he...

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

Thanks for the help Scott. I certainly have a much better understanding of the different types of sub options now ! Thanks. Now just got to get the 172 in the summer and build the system ! Thanks, Carl

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

Well when I said space I basically meant that I didnt want to take over the whole boot with a fixed install. I dont mind having a largish box as long as it is quickly removable if I need the boot. I think that once the main install is done I will take a trip down to Huets to try out the subs...

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

Ah I see now just found a JL install guide for the W3s and shows how you can get different loads by wiring the two terminals in series and parallel. Is there any reason to choose say Dual 4Ohms over Dual 2 or 6s other than to match the load to the sub depending on the number subs in use (e.g...

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

So do subs with dual voice coils have twin terminals then ? Otherwise if you running a single sub how can you wire them in series/parallel ?? (maybe I am being stupid !) Thanks for the idea on the M5, I will try one out when the system is installed. Also Luke mentioned the W6, What are the W3...

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

Thanks for you views guys. I wont be doing any of this till I get the car in the summer so the market place might be different, so I suspose I will have to wait till then to decide. Luke - Thanks for the ideas. As I want a removable box that is not tied into the install, I think I will...

    FAO Luke B. - Subs

Hi Luke, Hope you remember me from the last meet. Just wanted some independant advice on the sub for my new install as every car audio shop just pushes the subs that they get the best deal on. I dont want a massive box as I need the boot space and so I am probably going to get a single...

    Unwanted Break Dust!

Wonder Wheels is great and probably one of the best for getting wheels clean. Then I find Turtle Wax Brake Dust Barrier helps to stop build up, although on Super Ts with would be quite hard to apply evenly. Carl

    tweeters on the clio

You will probably need to get an ISO harness adaptor for a Renault. I am sure Pioneer use ISO connectors (I have only ever used Alpine, and you need an adaptor for them). Best to check at the place you buy the hed unit from. Carl

    tweeters on the clio

Yeah they should, Renualt just run the tweeters in parrallel with the front speakers with an inline filter to remove the bass frequencies. As long as you ISO adaptor is wired correctly then there should be no problems. Carl

    Headunit + Changer

I dont think you will find a lead to make it work. Different manufacturers head units and cd changers will not work together. Unless it is an OEM headunit you can only use changers from the same mfg. Carl

    Genesis 5ch in an install

I installed mine in the Megane against the rear suspension mount and I hope to do the same again in the Clio. It still leaves access to the whole boot and spare wheel. Although the hatch opening in the Clio is wider and so there is going to be some of the install showing in the boot opening...

    Genesis 5ch in an install

Hi Chris, As you know from my post in the topic about the 7876R a while ago I have the Genesis 5 Channel in my Megane which is soon to be transplanted into my 172 when I get it in June/July time. I would say it is a great amp for running a whole system. It has performed brilliantly over a...

    Gearbox problems

I have the same problem on my Megane. On its last service an engineer at the dealer said that he had solved the problem on his clio by putting fully synthetic oil in the gearbox. They changed mine and since then it seems to be much better esp in cold weather, but it still sticks sometimes...

Hi Chris, Your right neither Alpine (12 or 6 disc) changer plays CD-RWs, although they will play CD-Rs. I think the only Alpine unit that plays CD-RWs is the head unit I have the MP3 CDA-7878R. Cheers, Carl

Alpine CDA-7876RB ....Opinions and advice please

Hi Jas, cel-direct.com have the 7876RB for £329.99 and have the 6-Disc Changer for £145 and the 12-Disc for £199. I think these seem like quite good prices but I havent really been shopping around for stereo bits recently. Not sure what high street prices are like at the mo. Cheers...

Alpine CDA-7876RB ....Opinions and advice please

Yes Tony your correct, It converts the wrong way to allow Ai-Net changers (e.g S624) to work on the M-bus head units. I dont think Alpine make one that works the other way, mybe you could try Autoleads. Alternativly Alpine still do have some CD head units that will support M-Bus (prefix...

Alpine CDA-7876RB ....Opinions and advice please

Chris, I have always used Alpine head units in my cars, whether amplified or not, and you wont be disapointed with the quality (although I may be biased now ! ). I currently have the CDA-7878R (the MP3 one) which has pretty much the same features as yours and it is class, a great starting...
