AO48's work really well on a dry track but the grip in the wet is limited. My 172 has Koni Sport rear dampers and standard Renault fronts. It needs the suspension bushes replacing now but it's still a great handing car. Engine mounts and gearbox mount have been replaced with updated K Tec and...
Try ATS Chester, Bumpers Lane off Sealand road. I get my MOT's done there. Never had any issues with them. A great bunch of lads work there. Phil Jones is the manager.
Watch out for tyres de laminating if you use Federal 595's. I had two on mine and they both fell apart across the tread. They appear to make the tread in sections and bond them together. If they get hot the joints start separating.
My X reg 172 has in excess of 156,000 on it now. Had it 7 years and drive it pretty hard most of the time. Occasionally top up oil but it's only a small amount usually. Service every 10,000 miles. The engine is as strong now as it was when new. Last mapping session saw 167.1 bhp at RS tuning...
As above. T1-R's don't last at all. Parada Spec 2's wear really quickly on the front wheels and the grip in wet conditions is scary. Try the new Toyo R888-R's. Or ADO48's. I've gone away from using track biased tyres this time and using Michelin Pilot Sport3's. Not been on track with them yet as...
I did the track day at Ty Croes on the saturday with Porsche Club.A friend of mine has a new GT3 so he invited me and his brother in law to join him at the circuit. I drove his Lotus 2/11 with his brother in law who was here on holiday from Australia in the passenger seat . We rocked up at the...
Last time I did a North Wales run with some of the guys two ended up with speeding tickets after overtaking an unmarked police car just past Llyn Brenig! Quite fancy doing another weekday run if anyone is up for it?
Who's is the 55 plate 172 I keep seeing parked in Westminster Road in Hoole? It's got a Cliosport Sticker in the top left corner of the back window. Nice clean tidy car.
Maybe one day they might regain a bit of value. The amount of the RS Clio's getting broken for spares or smashed up seems huge. I'll be keeping mine for a few more years yet. Paid £1900 for it six and a half years ago. Granted, its cost a few quid to maintain but it's been worth it.
What size are the studs? I want a set for my Ph1 172 to use instead of bolts. I've had the bolts work themselves loose on a couple of track days which is a bit scary!
Brembo HC front discs with DS2500 pads all round is all you need. Been running this set up for several years now without any fade. Also braided lines and DOT5.1 fluid. Job done
My car did this last December. Tried replacing the chip in the keys and that didn't make any difference. Took it to Birchdown and they replaced the immobiliser ring on the ignition with a second hand one they had spare and it's been fine ever since then.
Just improve the brakes and get some K Tec engine mountings and a Powerflex dogbone bush to stop the engine moving around when it's being driven hard. DS2500 pads all round and Brembo high carbon front discs with DOT5.1 fluid and braided lines and get some track days booked. Track day tyres well...
Mine was sticking and tried cleaning the throttle body and replacing the cable and it made no difference. Took it to Birchdown and they replaced the idle air control valve under the inlet manifold. That sorted it. Mine is also 14 years old with 148,500 miles on it. Just done a 446 mile weekend...
I've lost one of the channels on my trip computer. It all works except it won't tell me how many miles I have left any more. Is there any way to reset this?
17's are too big. I've got a set of Wolfrace rims that I bought a few years ago. I use them during the winter but if the car has any extra weight in or is driven really hard they rub in the arches and catch on full lock. Mostly I use OZ F1 15's. I stick the 17's on if I'm going marshalling on a...
There should be a rubber strap with two hooks either end to secure the air box to the side of the metal frame next to the battery. There are two flexi hoses that connect to the air intake from under the left headlight. I use a green cotton performance element that I got from Demon Tweeks.
