Hi,
Has anyone had need to replace the flywheel dowels that locate the clutch pressure plate. I’ve had some machining work done on a flywheel and the friction surface refaced. In order to do this the machine shop had to take the 3 dowels out of the flywheel, but they mullered them in doing...
I've bought one for a mk1 Clio, also not fitted yet thoguh as the car is in pieces (again). The mount looks to be very good for the money and Justin, the guy I spoke to there could not have been more helpful with a couple of questions I had about it.

Hi,
I'm after advice from anyone that has done an engine swap in a mk1 clio, taking the E7J 1.4 out and putting the K7M 1.6 in it place. I've got both engines in the garage at the moment, and know the swap can be done, and has been done but there are more differences than I was expecting...
Thanks for the continued love all :)
Found another picture of the bungee'd throttle body setup, had to add it for comedy purposes. Maybe I should sell them as a universal throttle body conversion, fits anything just bungee into place haha
Right then, on from the last problem where the...
Has nobody tried this before then? What do people do when swapping the 172/182 engines into mk1's ?
I'll have a search through some of the engine swap build threads, see what info crops up there.

No updates for a year, then two at once :D
My OH signed up to a welding course at a local college, he'd plenty of MIG welding up to now so the plan was to learn TIG, and I had a good idea for a project, manifold mk3.
I don't know why I didn't previously think about it but when discussing the...
Eek, well over a year since the last update!!
Well in that time the car has run, been driven, broken down, fallen apart, been dismantled rebuilt and then broken again. The results of which are I’m pretty much in the same place I was 16 months ago.
Picking up where I left off last time the car...
Hi there, been a while since I last posted but am in desperate need of some help with the fuelling for my mk1 throttle bodied Clio. The car is set up and mapped to run at 3 bar fuel pressure and the standard pump has died. On pulling the pump there is quite a bit of crap in the bottom of the...
As a northener we had the opposite impression, seemed to be full of southerners lol, saw quite a few clios about and a few run up the strip.
I was there in my mk1 ph3 but no runs up the strip as we'd planned as a lack of mapping time before heading down to USC meant that the fuel about 6k hadnt...
Hi all,
I've been thinking about getting a lightweight bonnet for the clio (Mk1 ph3) for a while, would prefer fibreglass over carbon fibre as it'll be getting painted so no point in paying more for CF and then hiding it. Ideally I'd like a plain, non-valver bonnet but realise if anyone makes...
haha, don't!! the OH keeps talking about getting a Mk1 ph1/2 valver, he prefers the earlier shape too!
tbh I've avoided aiming for a power figure, experience says it only ends in disappointment or more bills to find the extra horses :)
wow, that's low milage, good find! Don't know for...
looks like a nice clean valver, I love naples red and it looks great on yours. Nice choice if wheels too!
Should be good with a tidy up and the few touches you've got planned.

It may make the whine quiter but that won't be because it's cured, you'll have just hidden the noise with the thicker oil :(
Seems odd that the refurb guys are happy that it has a whine so soon after a refurb, however I guess if 5th synchro is a known weakness it'll go for a poop eventually...
Frustratingly there hasn't been much progress lately, mostly due to the car looking like this :dead:
but before the weather set in we did manage to get a few bits done;
Water temp sender for a gauge fitted, not overly happy with the location as it's after the thermostat and so will only...
Next everything started to go back together, somewhere in all this we decided that the coilpack that was bolted to the side of the head;
was going to move. I found a strutbrace for a clio, he chopped the ford coilpack bracket up and got busy with the glue gun and the paint again.
Also...
Next up it was time to do something about the inlet manifold and add some structural strength to it. As the silicon hoses had proven to be the weak link we figured removing as much of them as possible would be a good start, more ebay purchases later and more steel tube was in the garage.

:D :D :D
no, it's a bit too cold for shorts at the moment, I've let him put some trousers on ! tbh it's for the best anyway, not the best examples of legs !

No pictures with this updae, but more on those ECU woes mentioned earlier. The engine went back in fairly easily and everything was reconnected, plumbed in and bolted up and ready to go. So fresh start one morning, hot cup of coffee in hand battery fully charged and a spare one on standby we...
Then we were lucky enough to find a listing on ebay for an exhaust manifold for the renault energy engine, these are as rare as the proverbial rocking horses poop so a last dying second sniping session was employed to ensure a winning bid.
From researching over the years I know that supersprint...
The car and engine had been sat for quite not moving or turning so we decided to crank it over a few times on the starter to at least ensure oil was moving about. Gave it a blast on the starter and no oil pressure :dead: Spun it over some more and still no oil pressure, so checked the sump...
Soooo the new magnecor leads came through, they are pretty good, and somehow cheaper than an off the shelf kit ??
More wiring pictures, here everything had been all loomed through into the car, a fuse box had been fitted and a relay wired in that supplies power to the injectors and the...
Thanks ! we've wondered if they might be enkei's, they came off a CRX del sol that was imported from Japan, and are by far the lightest 15 inch wheels we've ever found.

Coil pack bracket 'made' :D it was a ford bracket cut down to suit the clio then cleaned up and sprayed black like everything else.
Bracket in and coilpack bolted in and connected up, capacitor thingy on the side.
But then a problem, the ford leads believe it or not don't fit on a renault...
Aye, a LOT of hours have gone into it, some through mistakes, and some through love. When he finishes this I'll let him crack on with his own project;
lol at the 2 'spare' clio heads in the background !
More updates...
Loom went in;
EDIS Plug made off
Coil Pack Plug and one for a capacitor where it grounds. Found a blnking plate for the distributor on a megane in a scrapyard, it also donated it's coilpack bracket..
Thermostat back in, I had to block one of the coolant lines off that...
