same thing happened to me, was giving it some, big clunk, pulled over, aux belt had shredded, but a new loud clicking sound was happening when revving, low and behold it was he de-phaser pulley..

ive just had my variable valve pulley, cam belt and aux belt all changed......now i have a really annoying whine from the belts i think, and this rattle sound that comes and goes and gets louder at times and sometimes you cant hear it, the rattle sounds like it might be coming from the cam belt...

i cant see any evidence of the belts been changed, however car was sold to me as having "full service history" and tbh i didnt even think to check, when spending 4 odd grand on a car, i wouldnt expect it to break after 3 weeks also was not informed or warned by the dealer that they were...

im based in Warwickshire, is it worth me taking it back to the garage i brought it from? or should i just ring the out of house warranty cover they gave me, also, is the noise linked to the worn belt? or do you think i might need a pulley fixing to?

the mileage is 46,600, according to the service book no belts have been changed, i guess the belt has passed 5 years so needs changing.
