My March 2002 172 is now on 40K

My 172 was filled to bursing point on my trip to Cornwall, 2 adults and a 9 month old and lots of stuff but still managed 47mpg at a steady 70mph.

Went from Leicester to Cornwall, steady 70mph all the way, way getting 47mpg in my 172.

Got 36K in total out of the 4 Contis on my 172, swapped front to back at about 20K. I do mainly motorway driving which is why they have probably lasted so long.

I was quoted £800 for the 72K service, only on 40K at the moment, but just wanted to find out. 72K service is a real big one, Cambelt, Accessory belt, Spark plugs etc etc.

The 172 timing belt (cambelt) is due at 72K. The accessory belt is due at 36K. Both these figures are stated in the service booklet.

And hes selling it without the code!

Yeah, stop highjacking my post! It does sound better since I upgraded the speaker to JBLs, will it sound better if I move to the Cabasse, that is the question!

Tom, Ive upgraded the 4 main speakers to JBLs. I dont want to buy an after market head unit so was wonderingif there would be any benefits of moving to a Cabasse head unit from a 182.

Just wondered if the quality might be slightly better as its made by Cabasse?

I noticed on the Clio 182 the head unit is marked Cabasse tronic auditorium. Is this head unit better than the one in the Mk2 172. They both look physically the same and both have 4X40W output.

I had a CV boot changed on my Mk2 172 36k service under warranty as well. Thats at 2.2 years old.

Thought the cup/172 had a hydraulic clutch?

Had the same problem, replaced my climate control computer and the mixer motor which had burnt out!

Renault Leicester quoted me £900 for the 72K service (cambelt change) !!!

Well so far I have had plenty of expensive warranty work carried out in years 1 and 2 and have not had to pay a penny. Items include: 1. New exhaust 2. New Climate control computer 3. New CV gaiter 4. New steering wheel Never mentioned to me that I had to pay a percentage.

Could the alternator cause a fire when the igntion is switched off? because both Mooses and Hippychicks 172s were parked up and switched off when the fire happened.

I think when the oil is up to temp the light comes on at 7250rpm shortly before the limiter.

It was my 172 steering wheel where the inserts lifted. Took it in to Renault and they just replaced the whole wheel under warranty. The car had been sitting in the sun that day and was extremely hot inside and the adhesive stopped doing its job. The adhesive looked like hot melt type stuff...
