I spent £300ish on an alpine headunit and i-pod adaptor. Sounds better already but i am doing the front doors next. Either Focals or JL Audio. A mate has JL Audio all round in his car and it sounds amazing. Rob

I have just put an Alpine H/U with the i-pod adaptor in my x plate 172. The display comes up with the time and temp but nothing extra. I am getting a bit of kit so the steering wheel controls can work again. Rob

I have a magnex on my 172, its not to loud whilst at low revs but its not ott when you give the car some either. Rob

What exhaust do you have on that mate?

My mate has a modied cougar in an orange kinda colour with a wings west kit. Got to admit it does looks good and you dont find many of them Rob

Im not in heavy mods on a car either just simple stuff. But hey if someone has the money and wants to hit the bodywork so be it. God this forum gets peoples backs up at times. Just like that thread about the 182 getting kicked by the type r.

At least he has wanted to try something different with his car. There is no point sticking a standard car on a stand at a modified car show. If i wanted to look at standard cars I would go to Tesco car park. Why are so many people against people modifying clios on this site? Rob

Agreed and the end of the day a car is for driving, stone chips etc are going to happen. Whats the point of spending hours over the weekend waxing your car etc when its going to be dirty by a tuesday.

I agree both cars are nice. And if i had the cash i may of gone for a CTR but got a nice 172 in the end. Im pleased with it but there are better hot hatches.

I own a 172 mk 1 but i never harp on about it being the best car in the world cos its not. Each to their own and there are always going to be better cars. Type R and the 206 GTI 180 have far better seats and they come colour coded. Renault couldnt even do that on the mk 1 172s!!!!

The only Halfords that sell Megs is the ones with the ripspeed section in them. I always use the gold class shampoo on my 172. Def get the tyre spray aswell. Comes in a clear spray bottle. If you are going for a full polish and have the time then go for the 3 step polish etc. It has step 1 etc...

For the kind of money you have to pay for a V6 a would prefer a more fun car such as an Elise. But thats my view.

not to keen on the 182 myself. Have a 172 and if you try to wave at some 182 drivers they just snub you.

I think the car is nice, good colour. Would def look nice with a set of buckets and a roll cage.

Has anyone had a problem with their driverside window in a mk1 172? I.e it coming off the runners? How easy is it to fix? Window has a gap of around 2cms at the top at the mo. Renault as usual are true to form with their customer service. Rob

Seatbelts mate. My 172 failed on just that as one of the springs on the recoil and slipped out. Just check they lock properly. Rob

Go for the VX mate. I own a 172 now and it was between a 172 or an elise. Only got the 172 as it was cheaper to run. Otherwise the Elise would of won hands down. Plus you can take the roof off a VX in the summer

Hay Vix, Yeah i am just about alive. Taking each day as it comes. You know me. Tell me about it cars cost to much. I want an iduction kit on mine and then gonna start think of bit i can do to tune the engine.

Car i think was £7000 and then insurance 750 a year oh and then last but not least a nice cambelt change at a low mileage of 25K. Rob
