    Clio 172 ABS problems.

Hmph, broken nearside ABS reluctor ring. So removing lower balljoint arm to release driveshaft (both sides) and replacing ABS rings - relatively easy. Getting lower balljoint arms to re-align with the two retaining bolts - a pita.

    Clio 172 ABS problems.

Hi Having problems with my 172 ABS. It works fine under normal driving conditions, however when I'm slowing for a junction or any other reason, just as I'm literally at slow walking place ABS cuts in hard for no apparent reason. It's quite dangerous because it can cause me to overshoot at a...

What have you done to your car today ???

Today I have been mainly removing my backbox which was hanging one inch from the floor. Tomorrow I will be looking for a replacement. Next week I will be replacing my nearside front wheelbearing.

Couple of questions - Clio 172 phase 2 exhaust and turbo

Hi New backbox time (hanging 1" from the floor :-( ) Thinking of a stainless sytem. Has anyone got a KTR (Ktec) 172 stealth (silenced) exhaust system fitted? If so how noisy is it compared with a standard exhaust system. I'm not looking for a particularly 'sporty' exhaust note' and...

    182 central locking problem... resolved!

Just had this problem and thought I would add something to this thread. I simply sprayed WD40 directly in to the keyhole using the red tube thingy you get with the can, worked the locks with the key a few times on either side (immediately noticeable difference in that the stiffness went aaway)...

    Uneven front tyre wear

OK. Had the tracking checked at QuilFit, they have a Hunter setup. Charged me £59.99 which I thought was a extortion. Problem was I couldn't watch them do it. I'm always suspicious of these places. What's to stop them putting your tracking out and then telling you they've fixed it. Anyway...

    Permanent Live Feed - Where?

I'm wiring up a dashcam, and want a permanent live feed so I can switch it on and off independently of ignition allowing me to leave it switched on when parked in supermarket car parks etc. I have connector to piggyback in the fusebox and the horn is live feed but appears only to be live at the...

    Uneven front tyre wear

Good question - will be booking the car in to a Renault specialist soon - they should be able to tell me what the problem is.

Once again thank for all your replies and input.?

    Clip diagnostic tool

Yes - but - if you're bleeding a newly replaced master cylinder, most of the air is going to be in the master cylinder itself, so I can see the sense in venting that throught the shortest line available?

    Clip diagnostic tool

That's interesting because that's always how I've bled brakes in the past starting with the furthest away from the master cylinder yet the Haynes manual for the Clio recommends LF, RF LR RR as the bleeding sequence (which I followed). I can see a sort of logic in bleeding the shortest line...

    Uneven front tyre wear

Don't know what my current alignment settings are. Tyres are Uniroyal Rainsport 3 and I do about 3k miles a year. Current tyres have only done about 4.5k. I drive and corner quite fast but not silly - no track sessions. I live well out in ths sticks so I'll have to find somewhere that has a...

    Clip diagnostic tool

A lot of threads mention the need for Clip to activate the ABS after a brake fluid change. I've just changed fluid and used the old tried and tested method of taking the car to a place (gravelly car park) to activate the ABS half a dozen times plus re-bleed and now it's fine. I've not seen...

    Uneven front tyre wear

Ever since I've had my 172 (9 years) I'v had problems with the front tyres wearing more heavily on the inner 1/3 surface. I've had the wheels aligned a couple of times but this has not made any differencet to the problem which I've just noticed on tyres I've had less than a year. I've searched...

Hard Brake Pedal after master cylinder change?

Problem Solved - thanks for all your input. The pushrod end articulatedslightly and would not sit straight hence when the master cylinder piston end was introduced the apperture could not be made to allow the pushrod end to enter the piston cavity and was fouling each time. It needed someone...

Hard Brake Pedal after master cylinder change?

I've swapped masater cylinders and swapped the new one back (no change) and now I'm going to use a pressure pump to bleed the brakes. Can't see why I would get a hard pedal if there's fluid in the system even though it's not completely bled. I'm thinking the servo is knackered, but still not...

Hard Brake Pedal after master cylinder change?

So I've tested the vacuum from the inlet manifold and that appears to be OK, but I don't know if I would get hard pedal if the vacuum was OK but the servo not working. The other question is, is the aftermarket master cylinder I've fitted responsible for the problem. This means removing the new...

Hard Brake Pedal after master cylinder change?

I had brake problems with my 172 (2), the pedal being soft and needing a sharp tap to 'set' the seals, as when a master cylinder is on its way out. I've changed the master cylinder and a rear nearside caliper at the same time. Now the brake pedal is absolutely solid on start up and I'm unable...
