i was with 4 other mates in my 172 the other day and decided to test how the car moves wtih a full load, obviously there was a huge difference with power only kicking in at around 6000. i was wonderin if doing this will cause excessive strain and wear on the engine and if it would reduce overall...
i was just going through the menues on the trip computers whilist waiting at the lights today and realised that the real time fuel consumption menu shows 0.0 when i dont have my foot on the gas. shouldnt it theoretically show at least something as idling still requires fuel.....
anyone actually had a clutch replacement? i heard it is an engine out jobby for all front wheel drives. must take quite a few labour hours at the garage then....
hey all
i was wondering if any of you would know why my 172 does not engage smoothly when cold (eg, in the morning). also it feels as if my accelerator is sticky, making acceleration unresponsive and jerky. after 10 mins or so, everything runs smoothly and i can take up the clutch much quicker...
is this an actual renault factory option? i guess itd have to be to fit this well. im down in Australia, hmm...wonder if my dealer can get hold of one of these. do you have anymore info about part no.s and the like?
had anyone tried fatherteds method? is a worn clutch that easy to diagnose? my dealer told me that the only way they could find out is to physically examine it. i also heard that if you accelerate to say 10km/h in first than switch to 5th gear and floor the car, thereby labouring the clutch hard...
hahhaha, nah mate. just been driving it a bit hard recently, went down from 5th to 3rd on a freeway when it occured to me how dangerous it would be if i shifted to 1st...
i have thought of the rev limiter, but i dont think that would help in such a situation. if the wheels are spinning at 100km/h and the clutch is engaged, it is going to force the engine to spin that fast regardless if rev limiter has cut in. correct?
i was just wondering if a missed gear selection could blow your engine? it seems likely that if i was doing 100km/h on a freeway and accidently shift to 1st gear (say i was aiming for 3rd because someone tried to pick on me), the engine would most likely blow. but is there a protection mechanism...

i have recently realised that after 8000k my 172 still emits popping/crackling sounds from the chassis after every journey. i was told that after running the car in these sounds would stop. every other car i have driven remains quite after the engine has turns off, could it be that the 172...
my 172 has done about 8000kms so today i decided to do some 0-100 runs, this time pushing it to fuel cut off before changing in gears 1 and 2 (wasnt really paying attn to the tach). i was wondering if doing this every so often will hurt or damage the car? i was not really expecting cut off to...
hey all
recently it feels as if my clutch bite point is capturing all the way at the top of the travel. i get no freeplay at all, put the clutch in 1 cm and its already partially disengaged. anyone else had this problem? the dealer says that clio sports are made with a high take up (which is...
hey all
this has been happening for quite a while, but its starting to irritate me. to other 172 owners get a rattling feedback through the steering wheel whilist dry steering (sterring without the car moving, making use of the power steering).
thanks a lot
i have had my 172 for just over 3 months now. the car feels a lot more solid then other small cars out there, and the power is just breathtaking. however, like many of you guys out there, i have had problems with reliability. my mine concerne now is that the clutch is starting to show real signs...
hey all
i am recenetly having major problems with my clutch. the bite point has gone all the way up to the top (even further then the already high bite point), leaving me very little freeplay. the clutch struggles to capture when on an incline, making it hard to get moving. in the morning when...
i got my windows tinted today, and i am really happy with the job except for one nagging aspect. the driver side panel is rattling, and becomes damn obvious if you give it a firm hit, especially on the lower of half of the panel. can someone try this on their 172 mk2, and tell me what happens? i...

sometimes when engaging first gear or reverse in my 172 (mk2), the gears make a slight crunching noise, and i have to attempt to engage again, it usually works fine second time around. also, at times it doesnt even get into first gear and i have to try a few times before it gets into the gate...
hey everyone
thanks for replying to my post, and i agree that i twill just take some time and lots of practice before i fully master it. the wierd thing is, the 172 takes the longest to get used to compared to any other car i have driven. anyway, i am driving a lot better, its just the odd...
well, i have talked to him...and he is over there for the long term...at least a good 5 years or so. when he comes back, hed probably want something new :)
oh, and also, everyone i have asked including my dad has told me that it should be ok....blah blah, and that i am worrying too much. but i cant help it, is this really the case? someone please put me out of my misery...lol
