I spoke to a Renault fitter today who explained that the gear selection is achieved by firing a solanoid for each gear. He recons the first gear solanoid is gone, stopping all forward gear selection but not affecting reverse. Shame cos this car has done less than 30k and is clean as a whistle...

Understood. Has onlyone experienced having reverse gear but no forward gear, if so what was the cause. Could it be too much oil? Too little oil? Linkage issue? Thanks Ted

Its on a P plate, not sure what typr of box other than auto. Thanks

No they are a machanical devices which, with the correct knowledge can be repaired. So does anyone know what would cause a box to work in reverse only?
