  clio
Guys I have read a few threads on here with people asking help but no answers? Can anyone help with this query.

Ive got no forward gears only reverse. What would cuase this?

I think the level is ok, though it does seem a very complicated way of topping up an auto box!

Any thoughts will be appeiciated

No they are a machanical devices which, with the correct knowledge can be repaired.

So does anyone know what would cause a box to work in reverse only?

Have you ever seen the hydraulic circuit for even an old box? They're not a simple device and I wouldn't be deleving into the internals without previous knowledge and experience. Barring the obvious fluid checks etc and make sure its selecting properly there isn't a lot you can do.

1998 will be a DP0 box I believe.

Understood.
Has onlyone experienced having reverse gear but no forward gear, if so what was the cause.
Could it be too much oil?
Too little oil?
Linkage issue?
Thanks

As above, they are black magic and an Autogearbox specialist would be the best place to go as they're so complicated requiring some rather special equipement and experience to correctly diagnose/fix.

It could be a hydraulic issue due to a blockage/low oil pressure or it could be a simple electrical issue with the wiring itself or the control module... The brutal honest truth is you will have to pay someone to resolve this issue i'm afraid.

Its likely to be an internal box fault.. you've got more chance of winning the lottery than it being a fluid level issue, box repair is likely to be twice the value of the car i'd imagine.

Ive had a box fail on me and all the optimism in the world didnt stop the £1000 repair bill.

I spoke to a Renault fitter today who explained that the gear selection is achieved by firing a solanoid for each gear.

He recons the first gear solanoid is gone, stopping all forward gear selection but not affecting reverse.

Shame cos this car has done less than 30k and is clean as a whistle!

Thanks for all your assistance.
