With Ph1 172 driveshafts no longer being available, has anyone had a crack at rebuilding theirs?
Currently have both shafts off the Clio, original Renault units and even original Renault stamped CV boots, however, they are beginning to deteriorate and need replacing.
CVJs have no play and seem...
TPIs will rust eventually, my set have. Couple of bolts ended up stuck in the 17mm socket when removing wheels the other day.
They will probably clean up and be fine, but I’m converting to studs for ease.
Do love the look of the polarised bolts though.
Well, they arrived. Nothing remarkable, just a set of spanners that will get the job jobbed.
Reading through this thread has inspired me to sort out my toolboxes though (and spend money) 😅
Only snag with the Halfords Advanced combi set is the range, only goes up to 19mm.
Ideally need a 21mm in there too.
Went for the Sealey Premier set in the end, 6mm through to 22mm, all for £28 delivered and a lifetime guarantee.
Lads, I’m on the hunt for a metric combi spanner set, something half decent, any recommendations?
Looking at a Sealey set (6-22mm) and a Nielsen set (6-32mm) on eBay... £28.10 and £29.99 respectively.
What are peoples’ thoughts on Nielsen stuff, good or no?
You shouldn't really keep a torque wrench preloaded. Over time it will ruin the workings inside and render the tool less accurate. As an aircraft engineer we're told never to do this, always zero the tool after use!
Personally, I use Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5W-40 supplied by Opie Oils, very reputable oil experts, and only 20 minutes away from me!
I know some others play around with the weight/viscosity of their engine oils...
Have you got it advertised on Auto Trader etc? I would personally leave the price where it is, for now.
If people show interest, and make you an offer then they will low ball you, it's human nature as everyone wants a good deal. You want to compensate for this, so keep the price on the higher...
Looks great @Dr Jekyll and you wouldn't look at it and think it's been lowered, very subtle drop but suits it perfectly.
GLWS, very good ad actually, very detailed!
One thing I would suggest, has it had the cambelt done? If it has then add that into the advert. The cambelt on these 2.0D's are...
Yeah the Volvo's bearings are incorporated into the hub, rather than the brake disc. You can't buy a lose bearing, you have to buy and replace the whole hub.
Pretty straight forward job though, literally jack the car up, wheel off, caliper off, unplug ABS sensor, disc off, then undo the three...
The S40/V50 Sport comes with Eibach springs as standard iirc, so I'd imagine the ride height would be similar to a sport pack'd car, probably the same springs!
Carparts4less (Euro Car Parts' cheaper sister company) have SKF rear wheel bearings/hubs for £86 (there's probably a discount code...
Yeah, I've been using Parts for Volvos to price up the parts and as suspension goes it is a fairly cheap upgrade, probably alot cheaper than genuine Volvo stuff!
Well this month will be two front wheel bearings and next month will be Billies, Eibachs, top mounts and spring caps.
Has your ride...
@Dr Jekyll how are you finding the B4/Eibach set up? Been looking at the same for my V50.
How much did the top mounts set you back, if you don't mind me asking?
You didn't miss much @Oli.
It chucked it down soon as we arrived, the car park was mobbed and the pub was crowded!
Some nice twisty roads around there though, and it was very scenic.
Some cool cars in the car park too, a ratty bay window VW bus amongst them!
Here's a link to the event guys, which can also be found in the SW region forum;

Falmouth Meet, taking place at Pandora Inn on Tuesday 5th May at 7pm.
Food, followed by photos/drive.
The meet will start at 7pm, with a meal at Pandora Inn. Average price of a main meal is roughly £12-£14.
Pandora Inn has it's own car park, which shouldn't be too busy on a Tuesday evening...
Update on this guys...
I'm going to make this meet earlier by one day.
The meet will now take place on Tuesday 5th May, 7pm, at Pandora Inn, Falmouth, TR11 5ST.
I hope this hasn't messed up anyones plans, and I hope to see some of you guys there after the Bank Holiday weekend!
Cheers,
Nyall
Unfortunately not mate, the car is out of action due to the front nearside caliper binding quite badly.
So I'll have to pull the front calipers off the car and rebuild them, and replace the brake disc as the heat from the binding caliper has warped it.
I'll postpone this Falmouth meet by a week or two, to enable us to stagger it from the Par meet.
@McGherkin, if you're happy to continue your Par meet on Saturday and for the future, then we'll see if we can do the "various locations around Cornwall" meets 2 weeks after the Par meets if that...
I might pop in for the day, probably Saturday as I'd imagine most of the campers will be a little hungover on Sunday morning!
Not sure I'll be able to bring the Ph1 though.
