Only thing to do is check timing then. However I know it's easy to get it 180 degrees out. So what do I look for to ensure its not 180 degrees out when I check it?
Even though I've not touched the timing, but the engine is supposedly fitted with uprated cams, however I'm not certain. Would the timing being out that much make it only donor when it's warm????

yeah cos its only the internals that are to be standard, no cams etc, they dont allow injection for some reason, we could just build a fiesta and put a 2.0 zetec and carbs on that etc, but i want a clio and just need a bit of guidence on how to go about the engine side..... the rests a doddle, lol.
right guys, we are currently in the process of building a grasstrack car out of my clio 172 cup, trouble is they have certain criteria to meet, which is the following.
upto and including 2.0lt
16 valve allowed.
needs to be on a carb or carbs
must be a standard form engine.
so whats the best...
think for the sake of what a loom will cost from a breakers, this has got to be the first port of call, as opposed to spending money on auto electricians to work on dismantled looms and spending money on this component and that component, then at least the loom is complete and something to rule...
limp mode can be anything from 2k-4k, so are you saying that the car isn't in limp mode then dan? then surely the fault must surely lay within the loom, as the loom is a canbus loom that obviously means that 1 wire will send a current to maybe 4 components etc? if the car was running spot on...

just read the whole thread and think this car is awesome, very interested in this as im gonna be starting a tame 182 track build myself in the next week or so. the car looks superb from one thing, LOSE THE BONNET!!!!!!!.
