Ok, the main problem is that there's no timing marks, everything has to be just right and there's absolutely no margin for error, the F4r is possibly one of the hardest engines to time up and if you get it wrong, the whole top end is scrap and potentially the bottom end too in worst case...
In theory, there's no reason why a competent mechanic shouldn't be able to do the job themselves, the specialists all had their first one to do at some point.
The main issue is that there is a substantial amount of power to be gained or lost through the fine timing of the cams, and I'll be an...
2 clues:
1: it's an F4r engine
2: cylinder no.1 is the gearbox end
Welcome to Renault, where nothing is as it seems!

You don't need to take the cylinder head off, just do a cambelt change and replace the pulley at the same time, it's not something to attempt without the specialist tools and knowhow though, if you get the timing wrong, it can be game over, and if it's not absolutely correct it'll lose power...
I've driven the same car on 197/rs2 setup and with 438/itb's around Bedford. While the latter setup came alive at the top end in a rather special way, it was such hard work keeping it in the sweet spot and it felt gutless as soon as you dropped out of it. The 197/rs2 setup was much more...
Yeah the white s15 silvia was just a really really bad driver, as they're actually a proper good car on track provided you're not trying to "drift" which he did at the end of the day and ended up ploughing the infield!
And when you only have 130bhp, you really have to work the lines to get the best carrying / corner exit speed, so I think most of my lines are fairly on the money (most of the time! If you don't spin, you're not trying hard enough!!)
Here's the rest of my videos if anyone's interested, including a rearward facing one of me driving Mike's ITB'd clio (only 5 mins as the memory card filled up)

Cheers guys, yeah its the shitty maroon and grey primer one! its about 130bhp 1.7 puma engine.
Definately needs more power!
the blue one is owned by Mike Woodford's brother and has an uprated viscous LSD in it. if it didn't have an interior, it'd eat mine for breakfast as its capable of much...
Video taken from my Fiesta with the camera mounted in the grille, was out for a fair amount of time, so a good few clios feature in the vid.
bit of an embarrassing moment when I locked up and span braking too hard for the corner before the main straight!

We're no strangers to this type of challenge!
I distinctly remember Mike and myself constructing a makeshift gearbox mount out of 1 mount that didn't fit the gearbox and 1 mount that didn't fit the shell on his transit connect RS literally only a handful of hours before he had to catch the ferry...
Hi, I'm Charles, friend of Mike Woodford.
I don't actually have a Clio myself, but I have done the odd bit of work on Mikes own Clio, lending a hand here and there, and I am a fellow trackday enthusiast, and have always had good experiences with Renault sport owners on track.
what I do have...
