There's a sticky in the Engine thread with youtube clips and videos of what your car sounds like when the dephaser is on it's way out, usually it will be quite rattly on idle and then when you rev to about 2k the noise will die down, if you rev on and off it will make a sort of scraping noise...

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for to be honest, none of this Halfords rubbish, just a nice, tidy & standardish example. I think I'll get the dephaser and belt changed, then probably some subtle modifications but keep it as standard looking and as clean as possible

Yeah it is and it's in terrible condition, dephaser is knackered and when you get up close, some panels are dented and I think there's a leak inside because the drivers door & footwell are full of water!
