He was famous for his black and whites..he used the "zone system" as opposed to photoshop, but I understand your point.

It was a photography competition, not a photoshop competition... I think the concept of the image was good and the contrast was interesting, not his best from the selection, but still good.

I can see where you're coming from, they have a soft focus to them, which creates an almost blurred look if you understand my meaning. I really like it, sometimes you lose effect by having images really sharp and catalogue like.

What Andy has said is great advice, that's more than enough to either get you started or finish you off! I'd also take a glance at composition, I find it interesting how if you simply frame something slightly differently you get a totally different image..

I agree, I can't see how you make a post like that without providing reasons why the images lack depth/clarity/vibrance. I enjoyed looking through them, well done on 7th place.

No worries. Good luck with the presentation. Imagine they are naked! I had to present to some management staff and the general manager on Tuesday..great fun. Oh and if you're presenting using PPT, print a Handout for yourself so that you don't forget what is on the next slide!

Hmmm..I would think.. Open presentation > Select first slide with animation on > Format - Slide Design > Select Animation Schemes*I think* > Stop/No Animation > Apply to all.

It wasn't aimed at you Nigel. I didn't realise the situtation :) Trying to figure out how to spend 2k on a full setup is really hard work! I would leave the lenses and filters till and last. Choose the body first, followed by the cards, tripod, bag, case, flash etc and see what you've got left..

Exactly that! Most of the pictures I've taken are with the kit lens you get, I didn't rush out and spend £££'s on lenses, I learnt to use the one I had first off. Now I've moved on from that and I'm learning to use another before buying more.

Sorry if there's a lot :( All taken with Canon 18-55mm kit lens. I've recently moved on :) Hope you like them.

I think it's the Nikon Capture stuff. Not being a Nikon user I'm not 100% sure that you can with a D40, but yes, it is possible with the professional ranges. Both wired and wireless I do believe, depending on the equipment you're using, a lot of studio photographers shoot this way.
