I agree, replacing the MAF was the first thing I did to mine, and smoothed it out a lot - boost and idling was a tad erratic before that. £83 I think it was.
Agree with the ten minute job too - even I did it myself and I am bloody pants under the bonnet. From memory though I had to buy a 'torx'...
This is why I personally am not bothered about mpg, hence the performance car.
I put about 60 quid a month in mine, and I live close to where I work. In fact if the weather's half-decent I take the bike into work anyway!
If I did 40-50 miles a day I wouldn't own an Impreza and would probably...
But surely the reason you buy a performance car is to use at least a bit of the performance? Pussy footing around everywhere you could do in any car?
When I had my first Impreza, I put my foot down. A lot. Worked out mpg - 15. Then next tank as an experiment I took it easy most of the time...
No you are right not necessary at all. I had a standard MY00 one on mine when it was running 325bhp. I did however change the Y-piece underneath as that's the weak point.
I agree with James above.
If us Impreza drivers worried about mpg we wouldn't be Impreza drivers.
Oh, just for the record I get about 15-18mpg - but that's just a guess as I don't properly work it out. 33 - pah!
Glad it's nothing serious.
Recommend the Ninja Sports Cat:
http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1111
The Milltek I have on my newage at the moment needed a damn good thrashing before it would pass the emissions.
The Ninja however passed when cold.
Pop over to...
Well, you have a very loud backbox at the mo - there aren't many louder!! H&S, Magnex are a lot quieter if you are worried about noise.
My first Impreza had a Ninja 4.5" backbox, no centre-cat or resonator and decat downpipe. It was embarrassing, and annoying on the Mway. My second had the...
Fine, and as I previously said mine had over 100k miles. Another thing is that if you just decat the downpipe you won't pass a 'proper' MOT. Your best bet is a Sports Cat. I think mine was £299 but passed MOTs on its own.
Originally there is a cat in the downpipe (which you still have) and the...
You don't need to touch the intercooler for 300ish bhp.
Mine had a Vf35, Ninja SportsCat downpipe, Magnex Centre and backbox, Walbro 255 fuel pump, JR air filter and made 325bhp after an Ecutek remap. Oh and a 3 port boost solenoid (sometimes necessary for refined boost control).
Cheers scarble, I have done exactly as you suggested and he has replied
Sorry OP for hogging your thread, I am sure you will get more useful posts off other people!
Cheers mate, that's the kind of thing I was after :approve:
30mpg!! Like you I have had three Imprezas and am used to not getting anywhere near 20mpg, so that would be a nice bonus.
Figured obviously that it wouldn't be anywhere near as quick (285bhp at the mo), but was hoping that it would be...
Sorry pal, no don't suppose I was very helpful.
I am thinking of getting a 182, and I don't like screwing cars to get good performance so was interested in the replies to your questions.
I'll get my coat.....:quiet:
Alright G-String, I am in the process of possibly doing the same thing. Trying to sell my '56 WRX Wagon and pick up a 182. I am on Snet also with the same username.
How exactly have you found the difference? Appreciate the input
Unless you have a car that'll get there in 5ish, 7 then is a bit of a stroll.
Seriously thinking whether I want one of these though, if you have to ring it's neck to get half-decent performance. I'm used to short-shifting and riding 342lbft of torque.
Hmm :S
Yes mate, just paid my £12 and put a post in the For Sale section.
Sorry OP didn't mean to jump on your thread any qs about classics or Imprezas in general ask me, I know a fair bit and although Scoobynet has a lot of knowledgeable peeps there are a lot of tossers on there also....;)
I think it's the best classic I have seen for a long time visually.
I have had two classics, I now have a 2006 Hawkeye and that though is a 'real' Impreza also.
Unfortunately after the Hawkeyes they lost the plot, and now they aren't even going to import them so yes end of an era :(
Really surprised at that (Aztec) but I suppose it comes down to how you drive, and whether you have any mechanical sympathy with the box/clutch/engine etc.
My car had done over 100k when I swapped turbo and remapped again (325) and it was perfect for a long time. The 2.0 engines are extremely...
Have to disagree there - general opinion is that if you go over 350bhp then you have to start to worry about gearbox and engine internals.
Clutch though is a different matter, that may need changing if it's a bit tired.
From Andy Forrest's own site:
and
Admired this car on both forums now, on here as looking to downsize to a 182 - currently own a '56 WRX Wagon.
I have had two classics previously. The last one was a late classic like yours and all you would need for 320ish bhp/lbft is:
a bigger turbo (VF34/35 normally about £300)
remap...
Blokey pulled out of coming to see the Scoob today so still got it. Anyone reading this who fancies swapping their 182 plus cash for a sorted scoob then let me know!
Cheers Michael, someone coming from Coventry tomorrow with cash to buy the car so I'm gutted, but also quite looking forward to hopefully getting a 182 for a completely different ride!
ill be the oldest 182 driver around probably....:)
Fantastic piece of kit - I wouldn't have paid £500 for it though, in the motor before I had it. Pioneer AVIC-F910BT:
Oh, and yes it's not a Clio! Looking to swap to a Clio :)
Jared - yes I'm there every Mon-Wed-Fri after work. I'll look out for your car. Never know by then I might have a 182 :) I quite often am on my motorbike though, so if you see a red Aprilia Tuono outside that'll be me!
JDA92 - yes it is clean. Took those pics last year, couple of tiny...
Jared, I like that but don't think it would get on my drive!
I had a heavily modded Saab between Imprezas, lowered (9-3 Aero - they are low anyway) that wouldn't get on my drive when I moved houses a while ago. Sold it to get current Impreza, which could do with lowering aesthetically speaking...
Coleman, hmm your first initial wouldn't be a 'G' would it....?
It's a great car. Basic mods - Full Milltek & remap giving it 285bhp/342lbft (yes that is correct not Nm - it's a 2.5) make for very rapid progress indeed. Short-shifting is the way to go, pretty pointless hanging on to revs with...
Ok nice one!
Where are you in Bridgend then, and post a pic of yours?
Also put a For Sale thread on Scoobynet and had two offers already, so looks like it's going sooner rather than later :(
One @ £5k (turned down) and one request to view Saturday.
It's purely a money thing unfortunately. Nothing wrong with the Scoob, they absolutely suit me & I love 'em.
Basically, been looking at what I can get that I would enjoy driving for £2.5k max (so £3k in me pocket as Scoob is worth £5.5k) that is cheaper to run. Bit of a shortlist really and a...
You may well have, you don't see many Subarus around here anymore especially Newage Wagons that are modded.
This is my third Impreza, when I had my first one in 2003 they were bloody everywhere! I guess fuel prices and cost of living put paid to that :)
Oh, Litchard btw.
