Only car I've ever been attached to was a 1.4 MG ZR, so so poor to live with, bumpy, harsh, and just downright crude at times, but when the weather cleared and you had an open backroad, no car I have ever owned has compared.
The 197 I own now probably comes closest to matching the 'schoolboy'...
29 - 35 on a normal run, 17 on a back-road blast, if I go 55mph on the motorway I could probably push near 38.
197.. Pretty crappy on petrol, but I didnt buy it for economy. :)
I'll have a check now mate, it doesnt really bother me, it adds to the experience if anything.. Its not really a pop (apart from when cold), say if I pulled away from the lights and changed into second @ 3k it would burble or if I was reversing and gave it a quick blip the same thing would...
