£2.5k for 1.2?!

  E36 Coupe & Mk4 Golf
Hello everyone, just passed my test and been shopping around for insurance. After reading up about insurance fronting and undeclared mods i decided this was not to clever. so i managed to get insurance for £2.5k tpf&t:dapprove: including all mods in my own name. Anyone got any advice.
Thanks

Mods are bad mkay.

You as first driver, ma and pa on as well, should see it come down substantially. And sod getting TPFT.

Mike, insure on your parent name, you said yourself you dad uses the car, tbh thats a silly price, you must be able to get cheaper than 2250 with no mods!!!!

If I were you'd I'd just take off the exhaust and insure it as standard.

CONGRATULATIONS on passing though mate!!!

I'll have your wheels ready for saturday if thats cool?

Whats wrong with tptf? The cars value isnt that high so I dont see the issue.

Also, mike have you tried fully comp? These quotes have been coming up cheaper than tptf for me?

In some cases, fully comp is less than tpft.

You need to have a look around more, and take off the mods. That's what I did and it came down about 2 grand, albeit for a slightly more powerful car.

Get that exhaust off mike, phone around specialists, try all of those of price comparison sites, try all of those not on comparison sites, with your old man as the main drive it should come down A LOT.

Get the mods off, get it fully comp in your own name with your mam and dad as named drivers. Dont get it in your dads name though as you wont get any no claims...

This.

No claims, are like the holy grail of young peoples insurance. 4 years no claims at 21 will see you have a massive discount over some one with out any no claims bonus.

i got my first years insurance for £500 with mods declared  (3 weeks after i passed) and in my own name with dad as named driver.

2.5k seems way to much..

Add another £500 and you'll get to what mine costs...£3000 3rd party this year (first year).

I have my Dad (28 years no claims) and my mum (20 years no claims) and it's at that.

In a couple of months it halves with FC though, so looking forward to that.

Hence why I'm getting a better car lol.

Phone Adrian Flux (modified cars department), declare all mods and it should take a grand off that price.

That does seem a lot, what's your postcode like? Have you tried companies like Bell, Elephant and Admiral? They seem to be cheap when I was first insuring a car in my own name.

Jesus, I thought that mine was bad.

Can't really suggest anything other than what's been said already though. Get to look at sorting my insurance out in about a month... not looking forward to it :(

how old are you, if you are 19 or old then try brentacre they are a mod friendly insurance company. you can have unlimited cosmetic mods (this includes lowering, wheels etc), and performances mods of up tp +10bhp (so full exhaust system, induction kit etc), you can have more if you pay for a higher bhp band

Mike did you try swiftcover? Even if the quote is expensive, they cover lots of mods as standard for young drivers. (Or at least they did when I was insured with them two years ago)

Named no claims dont count with other companies. i fell for this and now only have 1yr ncb instead of 2=[

This
They literally only count for being a named driver as well, if you go main with Direct Line after being a named driver for a year then they dont move the ncb over. Useless gits tbh

i have a 1.2 and am looking at about 1700 tpf&t and aslong as the mods dont affect the performance of the car then they wont charge me for them, quite fair seen as its a 1.2 not much performance to be gained from it haha, ecar were going asking 1600 for tpf&t but dont know what they are like with mods
