£400 for a wing respray AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

Car  172 EXCLUSIVE
Need some advice,

Got a quote from Renault in bovingdon to supply a new wing, paint it and fit, they want over £400 to do it.

Is this normal??? I know the wing is about £50 and the paint is £90 the rest is labour + VAT.

Does anyone know a good, reasonably priced sprayer that would do it cheaper?

Also they put on the quote "blend into body panels" how do they do this and what is involved??

buy a wing from a scrappy/ebay and take it to be sprayed at a paintshop. They will be able to fit it as well. really easy to fit! where are you located?

I am in Uxbridge Middlesex. I tried finding a second hand wing but they are hard to find (i have a mk1 172)

your looking at 150 MAX.

Although are they painting the door too? if your getting a new wing ide highly recommend painting into the door for colour matching.

by blending, they mean spraying other localised areas of the car to blend the colour through, quite a common practise.

Not sure, Does "Blending" mean they are??

Would this bump the price up that much?? what is the actual prosses, do they rub down the area to be blended, paint and laquer it??

the wing will be blended into the door, bonnet and bumper

£400 is the top end, i'd day £250 is about right

HAHAHA classic!! I had a smash in my focus... completely wasted the passenger door and wing mirror!! Took it to a local and well known place that specialise in hyundai and the like... paid just short of £550 for a new door, wing mirror and spraying (including blending of the front o/s wing and rear passenger door) so no-way can you tell me £400 is reasonable....

if they are painting bonnet, door and wing, 400 is about right if its a big garage.

Bonnet doesnt need painting though, nor bumper really, just the door and new wing.

go back to them and ask what they are blending and explain you just want the wing n door done

Should i take it to an other well known dealer like Toyota or someone else??

no

go to proper specialised bodyshops. not manufacturer ones as you will pay the earth for a job which you can get done for alot less money and have same quality.

but at least with a renault stealer they will match it right. this guy where once worked, had a scooby and took it to ge the wing spreayed by some small garage, and they painted it a different colour grey looks well crap,

just luck of the draw mate. renault dealer wont do no better/worse colour match than the next garage. all down to the painter.

get chatting to ur freinds someone is bound to know someone who works at body shop, i got new bumper primed sprayed and fitted for £70, my engine cover and bonnet stone chips removed and filled and all spayed for £90 could of been less just speak to friends and family someone is bound to know some one

personally as the wings are prety cheap new I'd just get a new one and have it sprayed rather than a second hand one. Unless you find a second hand one in the right colour :)
