1.2 16v remap

k, i was wondering how much bhp would a remap to the 1.2 be, and how much it would cost. Any ideas. also any links for more info about this.

Thanks guys and gals.

best remap would be................

BUY A FASTER CAR LOL honestly not worth remapping a 1.2 ECU as the performace gains vs the price would be stupid. Not to mention any serious gains if at all possible would involve better suspension, brakes etc

prob get about 1bhp that you wouldnt notice.. you'd notice more by a)losing weight b) stripping the car interior out c) getting a faster car!

As has already been said it’s really not worth it when you think about it but I wouldn’t mind hearing the opinion of someone who has had it done. I know Superchips claim +5bhp from chipping the 1.2 16V engine but I doubt it (may be wrong though im no expert with this sort of stuff)

Gains ever with an exhaust and induction ket etc will be under5hp you won't feel much extra power.
But its the same ECU as the 172/182 so anyone who can map a 172 can do a 182.
Superchip do a remap for £250 which is your best option otherwise you'll need to become a test subject for a remapper. OR speak to Andi at GDi about an SMT6 or 7 but thats £500 or so.

wouldnt mind donating my car for a before and after run to prove it lol :)

Guys right.......... lose the weight, strip the doors off, remove the bonnet and all exterior panels, seats etc and the car might just feel that little bit faster!!

Honestly mate kitting the car up is a better option than actually remapping the ecu

i had a 1.1 at 17 and didnt even bother wasting money on an 'induction kit' or exhaust, just waited till i was 18 and put a 1.6 engine in.

Somone on here did have there car superchiped and they said it made it better. No idea who it was it was ages ago.

alot of it can be in the mind though, you pay 400 quid for a modification and you can imagine the increase.... i really dont rate superchips anyway personally..

I wouldn’t bother with a chip I would only get a proper remap and even at that would only do it to a engine with a turbo only time I would do it to an N/A engine would be if I had cams, TBs or some expensive mods that I would get a good benefit from a remap.

i wouldnt really go any further than an induction kit and exhaust system on a 1.2 16V possibly get your cylinder head skimmed and a light weight flywheel but thats about the limit and only worth it if your good enough with engines to strip them down yourself to do the work.

not really 2.0l gains are minimal with few mods...tho there have been a couple of good results...

As said, don't bother with a remap as you'll get sod all from it.

If you fancy doing some engine work, i'm doing cam and headwork on my 1.2 which i would have recommended but a) i don't think you can get off-the-shelf cams for your engine and b) as its 16v the cost would be uneconomical anyway (since you'd be buying 2 cams).

Just strip it and work on the handling...

or instead of wasting the money, just save the money and buy a car that a) goes faster b)handles better c) had better interior d) has more features than a bbasemodel, etc.

dblias in germany will sell you re profiled cams for 200euro and they claim they add 12bhp , you will be supprise by the ammount of power you can get out of this little engine but not worth bothering with unless you find it hard to be insured on anything bigger . superchips claim to remap for £293 +5bhp . when i had my 1.2 engine in i modified the inlet and head , had the cams done and a custom made air filter , it did 92 bhp on a rolling road but it wasnt fast and there wasnt much increase in torque which is what you really need

''with unless you find it hard to be insured on anything bigger''

it would probably cost more to insure a modified cammed chipped etc 1.2 than it would to insure a 1.6..

im putting my 1.6 in for a remap not a renault no more though but from same engines people have got with a remap between 10 and 15bhp extra just for the remap and another 14lb ft. or so for £260 it seemed worth it to me.
