1.2 mk2 ph1 intermittant starting fault

  monaco 172
Got an old x reg ph1 1.2 and recently its developed a starting fault.

When it does start it runs perfectly fine so i cant see it been a coil pack or plug issue or anything.

What happens is it will turn over and fire for about 2 seconds and then die. sometimes you can keep it going it you rev the tits off it when it starts.

other times it will just turn over and not fire

sometimes it will turn over and fire up perfectly fine.

does this sound like a crank sensor issue? diagnostics said it was running fine. renault want 65 quid for a new crank sensor because apparently you have to buy a new wiring loom for it aswel. I took the sensor out and gave it a clean which fixed it for me on my old clio but didnt fix this one.
