1.2 Sounds Very Rough

  Breaking A 172 Replica
Over the last couple of day my 1.2 has been sounding incredibly rough. I have had a look under the bonnet and at the CV joints and all the obvious things but everything seems to be fine. I have swapped Induction kits as I thought it may have been a problem with that but thats fine.

Basically it is in intermittent wooshing type noise. Like someone is releasing air from a tyre inflator really quickly? It happens more often as revs build but is only apparent between 2.5k and 4.5k rpm (this may be because the engine is too noisy to hear it above 4.5k rpm).

What could it be?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Sam

Exhaust blow perhaps, get a mate to rev it while you look underneath if need be. Could be air intake somewhere sucking in.

I have just had a look under the car and doesn't seem to be the exhaust blowing.

For some reason it only happens when in gear though? Not noticeable in 1st and seems to get more noticeable the higher the gear?

Cheers

No arch liners on there matey.

I like your line of thinking though.

Not the ECU covering rattling mine was making a funny noise which was down to this. I very much doubt its the engine, theres lots of oil in there etc? If that was fcked you would notice a loss of power etc.
Obivously the IK is all on there tight, and all the hoses are on properly. If it was the cooling system it would be leaving a puddle and the temp gauge would be sky high, hmmm, not to sure.

lol, again, I don't have an ECU covering...

I really can't think what the hell it is.

Any other ideas?
