1.4 overheating

  300bhp MR2 Turbo

My mates got my old RT and it seems to get VERY hot very quick, the guage is litterally pointing north and with the summer coming up it cant be a good thing.

Hes just had it all serviced, oil changed, coolant flushed etc etc but its still doing it.

What do the mechanics on here reckon - I think the rad or the collant system could be blocked?

The engine has only done about 35k miles so see no reason why it would be a mechanical fault in the engine.

Well it cant be the coolant coz like you siad, he has jsut had that flushed so it can be blocked - i think it may be a coolant leak (from a split hose) and a problem with the fan not working. It may also be a problem with the temperature of the air that is going into the engine - if you get a good cold air feed into the engine it should remain cool. If he isdesperate then pop the heaters on full and the windows down! Not nice in summer!

It doesnt leak any water though, the level never goes down and theres never any residue on the ground.

Reckon ill have to try and get his thermostat out and see if it works.

The fan is always on after use but cant tell really when your driving if its on.

yea he needs to do some test mate i.e. go for a 30 min drive on dual/motorway pull over see if the fan is working.

mine never goes above 3 quatres of the way up, and thats on a 2 and half hour jounry and more or less 80 all the way. on a 55K engine.

join the club mate, mine does it but maybe not as bad as you described...still sorting mine but want to get some air ducting for the K&N but not sure were from, does anyone know?
