  2015 Audi S3 Stage 3

can they be easily ungraded?

all help appreciated! cheers

tiny tiny mods!

heaveier/stronger gearbox from Megane and tiddly changes to turbo and injection pressure.

Im test driving a dCi100 tomorrow, but on stats alone a Suerchipped 80 gives around 25lb/ft torque MORE than a new dCi 100.

Trade-in and lose 4k or £400 on a chip??

P.S: theres a Test Drive in Diesel Car released yesterday - Im getting a copy at lunchtime.

UPDATE.

Mag article CRAP!!!!!!!!

(read it B4 I got to the door - AND took it back and said wrong edition!)

- a few others minor changes to dials, seats and front bumper plus more sound deadening (heavier) and £700 MORE expensive.

- BUT subjective comments and use manufacturers figures only. Did say picks up cleaner from low revs cos of variable turbo vanes

- no thru the gears, 50-70s etc.

- no DIRECT comparisons with existing 80 or 100HP rivals (Polo etc.)

WILL STILL TEST TOMORROW & POST.

- just phoned Superchips and they are coming back with a group buy discount IF we all go to their HQ in Buckingham, Bucks. The thought of SAVING 4K gets more appealing even if TINY tiny risk to weaker gearbox with upgrade. Day out in Bucks for Diesel lads??

PM if defo interested (no committment at this stage) in discount Superchips 100 upgrade.

Superchips quote 88 for a 65dCi upgrade.

BUT remember standard cars are under-rated like VW so 65 is actually 70 and 80 is really 85 in standard trim.

People sometimes slate upgrades cos they expect MORE - you need 8 times the Horse Power to go twice as fast!

I had a Ren 19 upgraded by Van Aaken 92-108, and it didnt feel a lot quicker till I got the stop watch out - 50-70in top from 12 to 9.5, 0-60 from 11.5 to 9.8!

  Meg on pistonheads £6995

my 19 IMPROVED - 50 to 53 - more torque, less gear changes. 40 in top should be much easier!

It dipped for a week while I stopwatched it, then improved from 50 to 53 (brimful to orange light over about ten tanks).

It was still doing 53mpg when I sold it in 03, 9 years old with 90K!

I bet my dCi will go from 70 to 73 with a chip (136-172 lb/ft at 2000 rpm) - Ill put money on it!

im interested in a group buy. also are they hot swopable i.e if i take into a dealer still under warrenty for engine problems can i remove it myself and then replace it afterwards.

the dci80 is a much better engine than the dci 65. my mates got one. it was too expensive when i bought mine and no free insurance came with the 80

have you considered fabia vRs. i cant believe what a good motor that is for the money

  Meg on pistonheads £6995

I love my 80, looked at a Fabia vRS, but body kit and white inserts on seats looked a bit cheap. I know they are QUICKER, but £80 Tax, grp 3 insurance, nippy, 2K cheaper with aircon AND 70mpg won me over!

Fabia 9/10 performance, 3/10 running costs

Clio 8/10 performance, 10/10 running costs

Street Cred - about even?

Proof of the pudding - I tried to sell the idea to my 13 year old niece and she said "wouldnt be seen dead in a Skoda - even RS thingy! BUT the Clio is cool!"

Superchips is INVISIBLE in a dealership AND upside down in a ditch - a tuning box is friggin obvious to an insurance assessor whilst youre in hospital wiv a broken leg!

65hp is realy about 70hp and remaps give between 88 and 92hp. As for relaiablity well Im not sure what superchips do but an increase it boost is what I belive will happen which is a little dangerous as intake temsp are high enough stock. But it should be fine superchip as a compnay are very good. As for box strenght well its the 1.6 box and forced induction 1.6 have gone to 160 and ~180lb torque with no clutch/gearbox touble. The turbo gives 0.9 bar which leads to quite high temps ~250 degrees

80hp is realy about 85hp and remaps give 100~105hp. As for strenght well its a 172 box so good for 200lb torque but slip will be more of a problem with the clutch. The mods between this and the 65 are bigger injectors (~20% more flow) bigger injector pump and an intercoller to allow for the 1.1 bar the turbo without excess heat problems.

100hp well none has remaps as far as I know but since the torque curve is being help down Im guessing 125hp and 190lb torque which is massive the box is the megan one with a bigger clutch plate. I cannot see there will be any trouble with strenghts here. As for mods well well it has bigger injectors (running at 1600 bar instead of 1400bar for the 65 and 80) Im guesisng bigger injector pump as well . Also new multi blade turbo as the (80hp one is at max at 1.15bar) the new turbo maxes out at 1.4 bar apparently but normal pressure is 1.25bar also the intercooler is 17% bigger. Also it has strenghtened pistons new oil cooling and stronger bearings along with stronger crask shaft and crank. The 100 engine has been detuned by Renault to ensure it doesnt make more torque than there 182 have a look at even the manurfacturers figures the torque curve almost kicks back low down there way more power there the box should be good as its the bigger megan one and has a bigger clutch this should help with the torque 172 has problems with the clutch going with all there torque but the 100dci should be ok (maybe Renault knew this diessel would have clutch problems with the 172 clutch so uprated it)

As for discount Im guessing we will get about 20/25% of but from the list of

~500 thats still a fair bit

As for fuel economy well remaps usually help as the extra torque and hotter

therefore more efficient engine means you change gear earlier. You may loose 105 economy at worse and thats with a someone using the power all the time on the track etc. For most people the same to 10% better fuel economy can be expected. The superchip remap is a software one so the dealers can see it when it goes in but as renault Technitians have admitted on this site they dont bother.

A tunning box is good and possible a group buy would get some cheap ones from a good company. Also you can sell a tunning box on later on. However tunning boxes just add more fuel which isnt the best way to make power air needs to be increased as well but since diesels are so underfueled there little trouble. A tunning box can however be added to the car and removed for servicing etc leaving no marks.

Superchips arnt invisiable as I said and insuracnce companiea are going to check more ECU now for these hidden remaps. Its stupid not telling the insuracne company about mods IMO so tunning box vs remap this way wouldnt bother me.

I wanted a 80hp dci when I got mine but the extra £500 and no free insuracne was the trouble.

The VRs is excellent car I may try for a test drive this weekend if I can find a dealer better value than a 172/182 if you do loads of miles but I want handling now at any cost so if the vrs isnt to good then its not worth the saving over a 172. Id prefere to pay the extra for a good handleling car.

Cost for a tunning box is about £400 but there nothing much to them Im sure with a decien sized order we shoudl be abel to get them for £250 and then since you can seel them on the cost sghould be brought down to about £170 which is better value than a superchip at £400.

Why would she prefer a Clio arr I love the Skoda maybe I just want to be different but there no comparison the power and looks of the vrs are amazing remaps on them are ~180hp and even more sometime with 300lb torque being normal.

the 100bhp model uses slightly higher fuel and boost pressures to gain that extra bhp.it also has a variable vane turbo charger but most modern deisals use that now and im pretty sure the 80bhp has one as well.

JAy172 I think (99.9% sure) that the 80dci and 65dci share the same turbo a made by KKK (now called BorgWarner Turbo Systems) KP35 its a nonwater-cooled, wastegated design turbo. Incorporating a molybdenum alloyed high silicon ductile iron turbine housing, it has a 35 mm diameter turbine wheels and 38 mm compressor wheels. Maximum boost pressure is between 1.1 and 1.15 bar.

The new turbo Im guessing on the 100 is the KP39 one as it has the varaibel blabes (the 80/65 have a different type of variable balde turbos)

if i tell the insurance company i reckon i will be paying more than a fabia vRs to insure it.

i too want a 172 cup or 182 but the killer is insurance. just bought a house so i must now watch the pennies! when i bought the dci 65 it was great but insurance has dropped due to more no claims but not enough for a fast hot hatch in terms of the 172/182

Its stupid not telling them. The insurance companies used to check ECUs but nowadays they are going to go so even more after crashes especially if your car is modified in other ways.

Im sort of in the same position I could geta 172 etc but I dont think I can justify the exta £140 a month running costs ontop of the extra cost to buy one.

Some inurance companies are ok with mods you never know they may only ask for a small amount extra which is well worth it since the only reason you buy insuracne is for the possibility of a crash why invalidate it

kkk do make variable vane turbos as the laguna 2 has one on it.the 80bhp engine had an intercooler whislt the 65bhp has not and thats the main difference between the two.older versions of the 80bhp had a wastegate turbo but im sure the brand new ones now have a variable vane turbo now.
