1.6 16v performance

I picked one of these up a few days back and have been very impressed with it so far.

I find it hard to believe the 0-60 is really as slow as Renault quote, it seems to be 9 seconds at the slowest. Also, this sounds a lot slower than it really is as you have to change into 3rd at about 58mph :-S

I was just wondering what the other 1.6 owners on here thought? and if anyone had done any 0-100 runs as apparently this is over 30 seconds, whereas its probably more like <25.

well ill always been impressed with mine, got faster than 9 secs on a stopwatch alone. i know theyre not reliable but defo faster than 9. i havent done any 1-100 runs yet though.

We have a Megane with the same engine - its certainly pretty nippy.

Ive got a Scienic with that engine and it aint nippy!!!!

The new sceinic does 0-60 in 12.5, its got VVT so its more powerful,

but it will never beat the va va voom of the clio, mine rocks love it!

ill have to find a nice straight to test it out 0-100 dosent seem to take over 30 secs though? The book 0-62 is 9.6, but it does seem quicker.

Standard Williams ya do too.. really does make the 0-60 look a lot less impressive than it is!

Think i might have to do that wiht mine, rev limiter in 2nd cuts in at about 55

i like it that theres more talk of 1.6 clios, theyre under-rater IMO, i like mine, decent step up from 1 litre suxo! ive always thought 0-60 was <9 secs. 0-100 is pretty slow however, bout 25ish i reckon?

yeh, the 1.6s are good. and the 1.4 is close behind, and then alot further behind are the 1.2s with thier feather weight handling!

the 1.4/1.6 are better coz their dynamique plus

Ive stretched the 172s legs against a 1.6 16v... there not too bad.... worth keeping imho as they are just about the rarest of the new shape Clios iirc (more Cups than 1.6 16vs!!)

ihas mine over a year and was going to get a second hand 172 this summer but seen as this its quite nippy i can easily put up with it for another year, its not slow by any means

does 0-60 in 9.3 so surely it can doe the 0-100 in under 25??

plus, means better than normal dynamique. ie- more extras like noise canceling windscreen and firmer sus.

Thats because there were more Cups sold than Dynamique 1.6s

Id be VERY impressed if it cracked 25 secs to 100, under 30 secs quite possibly. Someone will have to test it out properly. Mini Cooper tested by EVO at 9 seconds dead to 60, but took 29.2 to get to 100. Similar stats to Clio 1.6

VTR is around 32 sec to 100 ( 90 bhp version). So I reckon a bit faster than that but 25 might be a bit strong.

Does the valver not take 25secs to get to 100?!? And thats a 1.8 16v DOHC...

Dont think the 1.6 16v would be able to match it.

A healthy Mk1 16V will do 0-100 in about 22 secs. Id be very surprised if a Mk2 1.6 could get much below 30 secs - has anyone timed one?

Not taking anything away from the 1.6 as its a lovely car and potent too, but 25 secs to the ton puts it right up with a lot of hot hatches that do 0-60 in 7 secs and have way more bhp per ton.

Always thought my VTR was better than 32 secs. So the Clio 1.6 should be better than Renault say I would have thought

i suppose it just doesnt feel that slow, but if a 16v does it in 25secs then the 1.6 must be more

by the way when i said mine was a plus the insurance was slightly more than the normal dynamique.

i think 30 secs to a ton is about right for the 1.6

how can you tell the difference between the normal dynamique and the plus version?

i think you could beat a 1.6 in a 172 0-100 withought going past 5000 rpm in each gear,anyone else think thats about right?

whoops, i only put the 25 sec figure in as a rought guess. Probably not quite that fast, although i will test it eventually i honestly cant see it taking more than 30 though.

by the way, do the 1.6s have a better suspension set up than the 1.4s?

My 16v (weird that 16v is the actual model name) seems to handle better than my dads 1.4.

I think all 1.4 and 1.6 are the plus models. The plus models had electric sunroof and the 1.6 plus had alarms I cannot remember what else.

It was just a upgrade but 1.4 1.6 and 80dci all got it as standard

u can get 1.6 dymanique and dynamique + ,dynamique was £8799 and my + was £8999 at time of purchase fro mpoint jan 03, (dynamique was from trade sales.

got the plus cos it was black the other was blue.(i think)

maybe just a misprint at the time who knows.

does 1.2 and 1.4 have a trip computer?

thats twice as quick!!! v6 is 15.8 not much more than cup.
