Diesel? If so quite likely dirty fuel causing a blockage.

Give it an Italian tunning and a full service I guess. That seems to fix most problems.

My diesel had this problem and a nut had come loose on the unit that houses the throttle cable on the engine. As the throttle is depressed a small plastic switch increases the fuel supply to the engine (sorry about the lack of technical terms). The nut had come loose and as a result not enough fuel was getting to the engine because the plastic thing was loose. Just required a new nut. Bloody garage told be gasket had gone. I would check this and anything else to do with fuel. If its smoking alot of smoke too it is likely to be a fuel problem in my experience with clio diesels.

Also check there is no air in the fuel line.I had a problem on one of my work vans.It kept revving up on its on... turned out it was the seal on the fuel filter was letting air through... Im sure this could cause a stalling type prob too...
