There is a reason for the Gti holding their value so please let me explain, imo of course.
They are the sought after model over the Saxo VTS. There are far less around so people are prepared to pay a little bit more.
Numbers are hugely decreasing as they stopped making them in 03.
To be fair i know most of you will say it makes no difference but my Gti had a fortune spent on it one way or another. It had literally every part replaced for new/uprated. everything down to installing digi dials and upgrading the fuel pump etc along with mounts, brand new rear beam, big brake setup, full exhaust and manifold setup, new wheels, plybushed, full koni shocks and springs, HID lights, B&M Quickshift.... and what gave it its value was the colour (fairly rare colour now).
I knew i could of broken it for parts for the same money so wanted to try and sell complete to an enthusiast. In some ways i wish i never sold it because it was the "best" handling car i have owned. I sold my phase 1 172 for that Gti, never looked back until i missed the comforts of the clio so bought a cup lol.
Il probably own another one someday
