Technically, you wont notice MUCH difference between 1080p and 1080i on a set 40" or smaller. But tbh I would still get it. You know it'll be future proof for quite some time and I'd prefer to know I was running my games at the absolute best. Also, most 1080i TVs dont actually use 1920x1080 pixels (these are the best 1080i TVs to get), most pics are scaled up to 1080i (by ps3/xbox/upscaling dvd etc) and then scaled back down (by the TV) to fit the TV pixel rating (normally 1368x768), therefore not optimum picture as its been processed a lot.
If you have 1920x1080 pixel TV, then the pic is just scaled up or produced at 1080i and then your TV displays it directly therefore less processing, clearer picture. But if you're going to spend the money on 1920x1080 pixels, its worth spending a lil more and getting 1080p and wack the xbox as 1080p output. Most games are 720p so the image will be upscaled and sent to your TV which will do nothing but display and for all 1080p content, it'll need no upscaling and you're TV will display it direct. No processing so there will be a cleaner, better quality picture.

bought my lcd tv 12 months ago - 1080, and never looked back! Only problem is it only has one HDMI port, which can be a little annoying. Suffice to say, the extra cash you fork out you'll get back in viewing pleasure in years to come

I would say unless you have regually play on 1080p games or watch a 1080p source then 100hz on an lcd is a more desireable feature. You will see the advantage on everything you watch.
1080p is not the be all and end all of a good tv.

is it deffinatly the new one, i know they do two models (cant remember model names) the one i know is £200 is only a 1080i hd dvd.

It is out already and is noticeably better. The W2000 is a bargain at the moment though and a thoroughly capable TV.
^^^^^^^^True, but it's still 1900 nicker, and i dont think it's over twice as good for over twice the price of the 40W2000 imo, you do get 3 HDMI inputs tho which would be nice!
Toshiba EP30 or EP35 player for you HD DVD's at 200 and 269 quid is a great price , so don't get the xbox elite if you already own a normal 360 , just get a VGA cable and when they start making the games in 1080p your already sorted!

Okay not completly pointless but its all to do with the streching of pixels. The reason HD is needed is telly's are so big that the standard resolution was looking poor when stretched to display on a 42" telly.
I dont think 720p to 1080p makes any real visable difference on a 42" or below.

Does playing flight sim or any other game on 640x480 against playing it on the same screen at 1280x1024 look any worse?
I think you'd have a hard time persuading the gaming community that spending £*00-£2000 on gaming cards is pointless cos you can play them all top quality at 640x480 on a £50 card...

yes 640x480 looks awful when its on a 17" 19" 20" screen etc etc but on a psp does it look awful or your ipod video ?
the bigger the screen the higher the resolution needs to be hence cinema's use film its much higher quality than can be acheived by digital at the mo especially 70mm film !
small screens dont need the extra resolution unless your sat extra close or have better than 20/20 vision

Why do games look better on my mum's 1900-odd resolution 15" laptop than on my 1280x768 15" screen?
Argument over - yes there is a point where silly amounts of pixels are pointless, but 1920x1080 on a 32"+ screen isn't it. There's room to go yet...
Not got a car
We just ordered LG 50" Plasma and Pioneer HD DVD player. The DVD player also has USB and SD slots so we can put downloaded film on to a pen drive and watch which i think is cool. TV was £899, £400 off from managers speacil in Hughs yesterday, And i saw the DVD player for £199 so i thought bugger it why not. Oh and got a £40 HDMI cable for free.
We just checked round Comets and Currys ect and the TV in them was £1299. So bargain we got the last one they sold all 5 sat and sun so it must of been a good deal.
Cant wait.
