Will the standard subframe not do the job then as I was pretty sure all the engine mountings were the sameYou’ll need a donor car:
engine, brakes, gearbox, subframe, wiring, ECU, UCH, keys, steering column, steering rack and subframe.
be cheaper to buy a 172.
That said, it’s all swapping over. Nothing needs fabricating or anything like that.
No. The mounting points are the same but none of the 172 bits will bolt to a 172 frame. Plus the 172 frame is a lot stronger than a 1.2 one. Will the standard subframe not do the job then as I was pretty sure all the engine mountings were the same
They do fit. You'll just need to add a hole for the 4th engine mount on the gearbox. @Martin_172 ran a dci subframe on his 182 van.No. The mounting points are the same but none of the 172 bits will bolt to a 172 frame. Plus the 172 frame is a lot stronger than a 1.2 one.
Hi guys I’m just looking for some advice on wether this is a straight forward swap and all mountings are the same as I’m looking to put a 172 engine in my 1.2 expression 2004 and also if there is anything I might need to make it possible.
Why not? Rust is an issue on a lot of 172/182s now, the issue doesn't seem to exist on non RS cars for some reason (possibly the lack of skirts?!)Y tho?
If you want a 172 go out and buy one, they're not mega expensive.
