172 exhaust manifold

Morning guys

so I took the engine out my 172 yesterday to do a few a bits but noticed that the exhaust manifold moves around a lot on the joint to the down pipe. It’s got all the correct fitting kit on it and it’s tight.
it hasn’t been blowing since I owned the car but have had an intermittent knocking noise which I’m wondering could it be related, Anyone had any similar issues?

Do they have a flexi-pipe between the manifold and downpipe?

How old are they engine mounts? The engine could be moving around, perhaps?

There’s no flexi, but I have just bought a 182 manifold and link so hopefully that’ll fix the issue. Also got new engine mounts to fit when I put the engine back. I think you’re right that the engine was moving about all the mounts were shot
