172 Gearbox

[clio sport 172]

Hi, I was wondering what model is the 172 gearbox, and if any other renault has the same box?

same as the cup, BUT its not!

the cup uses a mech to electrical spedo output converter, where as the 172 take its speedo reading from the abs

mk1 172 = JC5 089
mk2 172 = JC5 129
mk2 172 cup = JC5 129 mech
182 = JC5 130

(i thnk, the above are off the top of my head!)

Good memeory there all right.

The Mk1 172 uses a speedo sensor in the gearbox only about July 2001 onwards models used the ABs system to get speedo inputs.

Yep

Alll upto about July 2001 and Cups use speedo sensors in the geabox the rest use the ABs system.

Thanks for the answers, but as my clio is the 172 mk2, are you certain that there is no other model, besides the cup, that is running the same JC5 129?

mines a mk2 and my abs still isnt connected up as the connecters where different when i did my conversion and still havent bothered sorting it but my speedo's fine why is this?

You must have a gearbox sensor then some phase 2's did have them.

Your cars a conversion isn't it?
In which case you need to look to see if you've got a gearbox sensor which is being used if you have and its being used them you canot use a 182 box if it doesn't have a sensor then you can use a box. If you don't have a sensor you cna use any box you want.

Yu can still use a 182 box on a car which needs a gearbox sensor its just a right fiddle using an extrernal speedo.
