172 ph2 CD Changer

  172
I know there's Renault CD Changers for the clio, but do they only work on cassettes HU or do they also work on the standard CD HU?

Also, does any know how much these CD Changers cost?

New CD changers from Renault are expensive £350 I think and the cable is £85. You ind them on discount evey now and again for £250 when they want to sell there stock.

You can get them second hand for £60 or so.

They work on the tape and CD units though.

Yep they work with both, ebay is the place to get them from usually go for around £60 or so.

Cheers, I'll have to look into that, I hate having to change CDs all the time, it's soooo 2005.

I hear they're mounted under the passenger seat normally... would I have to do any work to fit it, or is there any pre-drilled holes or similar which would make installation a breeze?

Also, how does it connect to the HU, at the back or in the front?

connects in back of hu. the changer can have a bracket bodged up to fit it underside of the seat where its supposed to go.

The renault bracket for the underseat mounting costs about £7 iirc. Is worth getting for the more pro look, i've got my alpine changer bodged onto it atm.

Alternatively save the money and buy a new JVC/Kenwood head-unit with a USB port on the front plus a 1BG/2BG memory stick. You'll get 15/30 albums worth on one little stick which plugs into the front. It'll also be much more convenient than burning/carrying loads of CDs.

All for roughly the same as a second hand changer + cable, plus you will actually be upgrading your audio system and will sound better!

Just a suggestion.

I don't like the idea of a USB stick hanging out the front, I know people who have it, but it doesn't look good. Also I don't really want to change the HU. I like to keep things reasonably standard, and if it ain't broke don't fix it! Plus that'd cost money, I'm northern, that takes a lot of justification.

I think if I did get a new HU, I'd go for one with an IPod socket (do they actually exist?) , as I plan to "upgrade" my stereo at home, so I just use an IPod with a decent amp and speakers. That means I can have one device for home, work and car.

I pushed my passenger seat all the way back the other day and there's a black plastic tray under the seat at the front. Is this the holder for the CD changer?

Did all 172s come with the holder already there, or has it been taken out before I bought it?
Its been taken out most likly.
The 53 platers had it as an option sounds but if it wasn't choice then there is no bracket there.
